Job summary

The Director of Mental Health and Children and Young People (CYP) will be a key senior management position within the ICB's Planning Directorate, reporting directly to the ICB Executive Director of Planning.

This is a fixed term post till 31st December 2026 to cover maternity leave. Post holder 's earliest start date is 7/4/26.

Main duties of the job

Working on behalf of the ICB's Executive Director of Planning, the post holder will have overall responsibility for leading and co-ordinating the development and delivery of ICB's strategic and operational commissioning objectives for mental health and CYP services, in line with national and regional requirements as well as local needs. This will involve significant liaison across multiple senior stakeholders including national and regional teams, service providers across South East London (including NHS and non-NHS organisations), provider collaboratives and networks, and Local Care Partnerships.

Successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate extensive experience, expertise and understanding of performance and change management, business planning, budget setting, monitoring and contracting processes in a health setting. Candidates must have experience of leading and developing teams, particularly across different disciplines and in a multi-disciplinary setting. Previous experience in mental health and CYP commissioning is desirable.

About us

NHS South East London ICB is the body responsible for the provision of healthcare for two million residents living in south east London. This area covers the London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

We make decisions on allocating NHS resources and planning services and enable improvement. In addition, we are accountable for ensuring that the ICB and the NHS providers headquartered within south east London manage within resources provided.

As with all ICBs in England we are currently operating within a changing operating model for the NHS in England that is requiring all of our staff to deliver against our responsibilities today whilst planning a transition to the current ICB Model Blueprint published in May 2025.

Experience and Understanding
