The Dorset ICS Cancer Programme, in partnership with Wessex Cancer Alliance, is planned and delivered by a proactive and innovative team. Enabled by the Dorset Integrated Care System; the post holder will have opportunities to deliver tangible improvements to patient experience and cancer survival in Dorset.

The Cancer Programme contributes to two of the new Dorset Integrated Care Partnership five year plan priorities - to increase the number of healthy life years for the Dorset population, and to reduce the gap in life expectancy between least and most deprived areas; the post holder will provide leadership towards achieving these aims and those of the NHS Long Term Plan for cancer and the National Cancer Alliance Plan.

Main duties of the job

They will provide clinical leadership to the delivery of cancer elements of the long term plan for Wessex, with specific focus on primary care across all five areas of work within the Cancer Alliance, namely earlier diagnosis, faster diagnosis, treatment, personalised care and workforce transformation.

The post holder will be an active member of the Dorset ICS Cancer Programme Steering Group and Wessex Cancer Alliance Board; and will chair or co-chair a number of groups to take forwards planning and delivery of the primary care and earlier diagnosis strategy.

This appointment is for a GP for two sessions per week at a rate of £330 per session until March 31st 2025 (with potential opportunity to extend). The role is flexible but a commitment to attend Wessex Cancer Alliance and national meetings is required.
