An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacist to work in our dynamic and friendly Medicines Optimisation team.The post holder will sit within our Interface team working across Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Integrated Care System (ICS) with GP-based Medicines Optimisation Pharmacists, acute Trust Formulary Pharmacists and the High Cost Drug Pharmacists to support the Joint Formulary.
This role promotes the BNSSG Joint Formulary, medicines governance processes and co-ordinates a range of medicines optimisation work to implement local and national priorities across BNSSG. The post holder will work across the ICS to manage the entry of new drugs, resolve interface prescribing issues, promote formulary adherence across BNSSG and support the management of high cost drugs within BNSSG.
The post holder should have relevant experience in primary and/or secondary care and a good clinical background. Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain good working relationships with avariety of stakeholders are also essential. An understanding of formulary management, experience of implementing change and some critical appraisal skills are also desirable for this post.
This is a substantive post offered at a minimum of 0.8 wte to 1.0 wte. This advert is open for an extended duration to allow consideration during the summer holidays.
Main duties of the job
This post holder is integral to providing expert advice on medicines at the healthcare interface by developing strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure the use of medicines that meets the needs of the patients in the BNSSG Integrated Care System (ICS). They will be responsible for promoting the development and implementation of clear medicines governance processes across the ICS to ensure safe, effective and cost-effective use of medicines and meet all related legal requirements.
To deliver this, the post holder will lead, develop and manage the BNSSG Joint Formulary and BNSSG Joint Formulary Group for the managed entry of new drugs through the formulary processes, chapter review, the Traffic Light System and related shared care protocols and Joint Formulary website. In addition, the post holder will support and manage the local implementation of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) work programme including other high-cost drugs and devices across BNSSG ICS through the BNSSG NICE College & BNSSG High Cost Drugs Group. Support will also be provided by this post holder to the Exceptional Funding Request (EFR) teams on the commissioning of medicines within the BNSSG Joint Formulary. They will work closely with the Principal Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist, (BNSSG System) portfolio of work.
