An exciting opportunity as arisen within the NHS North East London Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Department where we are looking to recruit to the Director of Nursing & Safeguarding role.
This post is pivotal to the delivery and administration of the statutory and professional portfolio of the CNO. The Director of Nursing & Safeguarding leads the portfolios and corporate teams including All-Age Safeguarding, Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC), Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP), and Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS) for NHS NEL; including leadership and championing of Nursing, Midwifery and other Health professions.
The post holder will deputise for the Chief Nursing Officer internally and externally as appropriate, and will co-chair or chair committees/meetings as agreed with the Chief Nursing Officer.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an exceptional nurse leader that has a highly specialist set of leadership abilities and skills, with experience of working at a senior level with strategic partners from across health, social care and education systems.

- Providing outstanding professional leadership across NEL ICS to the nursing, midwifery and other health professional workforce, working with the senior/executive leadership clinical and non-clinical teams.
- To provide leadership related to workforce transformation enabling/creating a sustainable and innovative workforce model across the ICS.
- Working closely with colleagues, in particular with the Director of Quality to ensure services maintain a consistent focus on quality, integration and innovation, with a view to securing the best possible outcomes for residents within the available resource allocation.
- To collaborate and work in partnership with local and national partners to implement nursing and safeguarding programmes and initiatives.
- Working collaboratively with key stakeholders in the development and delivery of the nursing and safeguarding, IPC, LMNS and CDOP agendas to continuously improve quality and safety.

Essential
- Registered Nurse with a current live registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Masters degree/higher qualification or equivalent experience
- Extensive knowledge and expertise relating to nursing and at least one other area of work such as management, research and development
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Further evidence of management qualification or training.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Extensive managerial experience and has worked at corporate/ divisional level or equivalent in previous roles.
- Able to demonstrate/provide evidence of leadership ability and experience
- Have extensive experience of working in a strategic position whilst holding a broad portfolio
- Thorough knowledge and experience of clinical governance issues, quality improvement and minimising risk for the organisation
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of Safeguarding, IPC, Child Death and Maternity & Neonatal service provision
