Devon Integrated Care System (ICS) Retention Hub is an exciting new team, created to support our incredible people to be happy and fulfilled throughout their careers in health and social care. The hub is passionate about great employee experience and the importance of staff wellbeing, career opportunities, personal development and individual staff journeys.

As Lead Legacy Mentor you will take overall responsibility for establishing and ensuring the successful delivery of our new legacy mentoring service across the Devon system. The service is primarily designed to support newly qualified colleagues to enhance their clinical practice, at the same time as building their confidence through mentorship, coaching and practical support and guidance.

You will lead the new team of Legacy mentors and the Career Navigator to improve the overall experience of our people.

The Legacy Mentor team and Career Navigator will be based at County Hall in Exeter but will work across multiple locations with the team collectively providing services to One Devon.

Main duties of the job

Establish and co-ordinate the legacy mentoring service ensuring consistency of support within the Devon system

Ensure the successful delivery of an effective service which meets the needs of staff in line with local, Devon and national plans, policies and procedures and contributes to improved staff retention

Develop systems to monitor and evaluate the contribution of the service to staff experience and retention, using agreed governance and assurance frameworks and processes

Provide effective leadership to the legacy mentor and career navigator team.

Provide support and mentoring to students and nurses in all settings at a range of points in their career from newly qualified to later stage career. Explore ways to extend the service to other key staff groups across the system, supporting targeted retention activity

Support the implementation of other national priority workstreams including preceptorship, Heath Care Support Worker retention and career pathways.

Bring an innovative approach to the provision of high quality mentoring across a range of services and settings, developing new ways of working and implementing change

Help shape the retention strategy for the Devon system.

Job Summary

The Lead Legacy Mentor will lead a new team of legacy mentors to set up this service within the Devon ICB. The team will provide support to newly qualified nurses, students, colleagues returning to practice as well as colleagues at the later stages of their career who wish to remain in clinical practice and support others. The key aim of the service is to improve the employee experience and therefore retention of staff.

The role holder will manage and take overall responsibility for establishing the legacy mentoring service in a range of specialisms or environments across the health and social care spectrum across the Devon system, working with a range of stakeholders to gain support their support and buy in. They will additionally manage the career navigator, ensuring that all team roles work together in a complementary way to improve experience at work.

They will be responsible for the coordination of the service, establishing a framework which ensures that different stakeholders can access the service across the Devon System to ensure consistency of support across the settings.

The role holder will have professional and managerial responsibility and accountability which includes managing staff, budget, quality and standards of practice within the team through professional development, service monitoring and the impact of mentoring for all staff groups in scope.

The person will work as part of bigger retention hub and make a key contribution to staff experience through provision of specialist mentoring expertise and service development skills.

They will provide professional nursing leadership and guidance, advice and management in relation to the key dimensions of education.

They will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about the profession and an advocate for legacy mentoring across the Devon system.

The role holder will be confident in building relationships and collaborating with others.

Establish the legacy mentoring framework within the Devon system as part of the broader staff experience and retention workstream, creating and sustaining a broad coalition of support for the service

Be an advocate for the service across the system with a passion and drive to enable others to stay and stay well
