Job summary
Are you an enthusiastic person with a diagnosis of Autism and/or a Learning Disability who would like to be a part of the Navigator service in Norfolk & Waveney? We are looking for a Peer Support Worker with lived experience of accessing Mental Health Services and/or has engaged in treatment or support from a mental health/emotional wellbeing service to contribute to the on-going development of the Navigator service. This will include supporting our step-aside function and the development of recovery focused peer support groups/workshops, working flexibly to facilitate personalised support for autistic children and young people and those with a learning disability. You will work alongside a Navigator to provide a seamless, robust and relevant network of onward support at the step-aside stage, signposting as appropriate to alternative services and 'hand holding' to build confidence and resilience.
Under the supervision of the Navigator Team, the Peer Support Worker will support children & young people who have a diagnosis of Autism and/or a Learning Disability. The Peer Support Worker will do this through providing emotional support to the young people on the Navigator caseload to help them to understand the impact of their diagnosis on their mental health and recovery goals. Through sharing their own experiences, the Peer Support Worker will inspire and support those individuals to think positively about their future.
Main duties of the job
- To support the development of recovery focused peer support groups/workshops for autistic children and/or those with a learning disability that have been referred to the Navigator service.
- To support the co-production and co-design of service delivery, incorporating voice and influence to enhance the work of the Navigator function.
- To role model the values of peer support and recovery by being the lived example of ongoing recovery to support, educate and inspire young people accessing the Norfolk & Waveney Navigator service to improve their mental health and wellbeing to live the lives they want.
- To promote a personal recovery approach within the Norfolk & Waveney Navigator service.
- To support young people to develop resilience and confidence to step-aside from the Navigator service.
- To maximise the involvement and participation of young people in the evaluation of interventions and support.
- Undertake one-to-one work with young people to identify on-going needs and deliver bespoke pieces of work to help maintain family stability.
