Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Strategic Head of Contracting & Oversight (North) in the ICB's Contracting & Procurement Directorate. The post holder will work with the Director of Contracting and Oversight (North) to lead the ICBs contract management function across a range of providers and services.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will have a key role in the ICB, ensuring that both ICB and locally agreed place-based priorities and objectives are met to deliver the overarching aims of the ICB.

About us

Our Integrated Care Board (ICB) is the largest in the country.

The ICB is responsible for ensuring that high quality and safe health services are accessible to all of our communities. It has a wide range of functions, including; promoting integration of health and care services, improving peoples health and well-being, reducing health inequalities.

With a £6.6 billion budget and a workforce of 170,000 people across the North East and North Cumbria. As well as strategic functions, ICB staff also work at place level with local health and wellbeing boards in each of our 14 local authority areas. These teams also work alongside our 67 primary care networks which are groups of local GP practices, social care teams and other community- based area providers.

The ICB works with our Provider Collaborative too, this includes the 11 NHS Foundation Trusts in the region, to deliver our shared priorities.

Management of a complex contracting portfolio on behalf of the ICB, ensuring that patients receive optimum value from their contracted healthcare services. Providing expertise, knowledge and leadership across the organisation in relation to the area of contract and provider management, leading and managing the business relationships and contracts with providers across a range of services, ensuring all relevant local and national standards are achieved, particularly those that impact on ICB assurance. Partnership working with a range of colleagues from across the ICB, to develop strategies and action plans enabling the ICB to commission services which meet the needs of the population. Responsibility for building relationships organisations to exploit potential and to work in partnership to develop a programme of continuous improvement.to ensure high quality, safe, value for money services. With colleagues, ensure strategic proposals are evidence based, consider quality, safety and value for money, public and professional opinion and can be effectively implemented.

  • Masters qualification (or willing to work towards/equivalent experience) in health commissioning or related discipline.
  • Demonstrable evidence of continuous professional development
