GP with a Special Interest in Gynaecology

Job summary

The Black Country ICB is looking for a GP with Special Interest (GPwSI) to lead the pilot for the Unscheduled Bleeding Intermediate Triage Service (UBITS) in response to the national and WMCA Unscheduled Bleeding pathway redesign.

This role will be for 1 PA per week in total in a fixed term role until 31 March 2026.

In November 2024, the Black Country ICS Cancer Board approved the preferred model of a primary care led model for Unscheduled Bleeding whilst on HRT.

The expected timeframes for the pilot are beginning of August 2025 to end of September 2025 starting in Wolverhampton place with a view to continue in the role once the pathway is extended to the rest of the Black Country.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including:

  1. Telephone/virtual consultations, referrals, advice and guidance and queries.
  2. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
  3. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  4. In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  5. Providing counselling and health education.
  6. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  7. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using the agreed electronic clinical systems.

Job responsibilities

  1. In accordance with the Job Plan as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including telephone/virtual consultations, referrals, advice and guidance and queries.
  2. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.

  • Actively supports and contributes to the development of key performance indicators for the successful assessment of performance
  • Test and review new concepts, models, methods, practices, products and equipment
  • Contributes to ensuring there are processes in place for spreading and sharing learning and outcomes.

Planning and Organisation

  • Support implementation of strategic modernisation/service improvement and commissioning strategies and any associated action plans, in accordance with the agreed priorities of the team
  • Contribute to the development of performance and governance strategies and the development and implementation of improvement programmes
  • Contribute to the formulation of plans of up to three year and strategic direction within the team on issues, taking a lead for specific workstreams.
  • Deliver against objectives, achieving quality outcomes, prioritising own workload and working to tight deadlines.

Policy and Service Development

  • Propose changes to own project/function, informing policy and making recommendations for service delivery
  • Contribute to the review and development of existing information management systems and contribute to the development of an integrated approach to the service.
