Research Grant Development Officer

Job summary

The post holder will work as a member of the Research and Innovation Hub Team, which is part of the Clinical and Care Directorate in Lincolnshire's Integrated Care Board (ICB).

The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating and initiating the development of research grant applications and identifying new health and social care-related research funding opportunities, and act as a key contact for advice relating to research activity for colleagues across the system.

The post holder has responsibility for ensuring a proactive and integrated approach to research to facilitate embedding research, evidence, and evaluation into core business

Main duties of the job

Working with local and regional partners to identify priority areas for the development of research that is suitable for funding by national funding bodies.

Support the design of research studies, grant applications and research protocols for a variety of funding streams.

Provide critical review of the research proposals prepared by others, carrying out substantive editing and revision where appropriate.

Identify new funding opportunities and NIHR priorities to ensure that a broad range of information and general advice on new funding initiatives is disseminated to the appropriate partners in a timely manner.

Assist and encourage academics and health and care staff to make connections with one another to enable the development of cohesive and viable research bids.

Provide assistance in all detailed aspects of research grant applications, particularly with regard to interpretation of funding criteria applied by the Department of Health and Social Care and ensuring compliance. This may involve communication with external contacts with the funding body with respect to the development of proposals.

Assist with supporting research capacity and capability building efforts across the system and where appropriate work with those not yet suitable for funding and assist those achieving funding to develop research bids as appropriate.

Direct/Indirect patient care

  • No direct patient care responsibilities.
  • Bring together information to assist with the construction of complex care protocols to ensure patient safety as part of the development of grant applications.
  • Ensure that all projects have the required, proportionate, and relevant Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement elements (PPIE).
  • Ensure that all projects have considered the communities in which they are undertaking the research with a focus on those which are traditionally underserved.
  • Ensure that project teams have given due consideration for the implementation/operationalisation of the research benefits following the project.

Policy and Service Development

  • To provide critically appraised research evidence and information to inform input in to grant applications.
  • Contribute to department procedures and protocols.
  • Implement health research policies and procedures.
  • Identify policy changes that supports grant application and propose changes that may impact on the wider service delivery across Lincolnshire system.

Financial and physical resources

  • To liaise with the relevant departments and organisations, to ensure that any costing elements of application and project budget development are in place in a timely manner. To ensure that all recoverable costs are identified within the specified criteria for the grant application.
  • Assist in the Research Capability Funding (RCF) decision process and monitor those awarded RCF to ensure achievement of specified deliverables.

Human Resources

  • Provides training on activities to other healthcare professional and team members. This may include induction of new staff members or less experienced employees.

Information resources

To use IT to produce documents and resources.

Daily use of ICB information systems such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Outlook, SystmOne.

Regular requirement to use computer software to develop or create reports.

Research and Development

To undertake occasional research and/or audit in accordance with the needs of the ICB.

To contribute to growing body of local and national evidence through writing and presenting papers.

To maintain a highly specialised knowledge base with particular expertise in the area.

To contribute to the clinical governance activities.

To demonstrate own continuing Professional development including specialist areas.
