Job summary

The postholder will work as part of the NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board Maternity and Neonatal Transformation Team, working at both an operational and strategic level. To provide management and leadership for the successful implementation of the Infant feeding pathway within the Neonatal service at United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust (ULHT).

To facilitate and embed the recognised Neonatal UNICEF Baby Friendly standards, at a local level, providing a quality family experience within the Neonatal Services.

The postholder will develop and implement pathways necessary to achieve UNICEF Neonatal Baby Friendly status award. Will coordinate and facilitate training and education and contribute to the development of policies and guidelines. Provide continuous monitoring and reporting around infant feeding and to improve breast milk optimisation for the sick and preterm infant.

The postholder will provide specialist support to Medical and Nursing staff to enhance infant feeding choices for families within the UNICEF framework.

The postholder will be accountable through the LMNS and maintain effective working relationships with appropriate infant feeding services and the National Infant Feeding Network (NIFN) East Midlands.

The postholder will manager a specific workload which includes advice and training support for staff within infant feeding.

Main duties of the job

  • To support infant feeding at a Service level within the ULHT Neonatal Service. The postholder will support the process for the implementation of the Neonatal BFI standards working collaboratively with ULHT and the Maternity and Neonatal Programme within the LMNS.
  • Develop policies, guidelines, and tools in accordance with local and National standards and present audit data through relevant ULHT Governance processes and LMNS Neonatal workstream pathway, producing action plans and reporting as required
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with appropriate infant feeding services, health professionals, other partner agencies and LMNS Maternity and Neonatal Programme Leads.
  • To innovate and implement new initiatives relevant to infant feeding working in collaboration with Neonatal Parent Voice and Maternity Voice Partnership to ensure initiatives are co-produced with families.
  • Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and provide clinical leadership in the specialist area of infant feeding.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring effective communication of issues affecting infant feeding.
  • Work collaboratively with Neonatal staff and Infant feeding Link nurses to support the development and delivery of education programmes for staff, within the Neonatal BFI framework.

The Neonatal service within ULHT comprises of a Special care Unit (SCU) at Pilgrim Hospital Boston and Local Neonatal Unit (LNU) at Lincoln County Hospital Lincoln. Transitional Care and Outreach Services are provided.
