Job summary

Business Intelligence and Analytics services exist to support organisations in defining and fulfilling their objectives. Our purpose is to support a complex multi-million pounds health care system on its journey towards best population health and associated Integrated Care System changes, whilst fulfilling statutory duties. The ICB Business Intelligence and Analytics team needs to transform its reach and impact. The Business Intelligence Lead is one of 3 complementary Senior Strategic Analyst roles in our growing BI and Analytics team. With lead responsibility for the Business Intelligence portfolio and shared core responsibilities for the full end-to-end value adding BI and Analytics service, you will lead the BI deployment across the ICB and Primary care, and partner with stakeholder organisations to develop Business Intelligence across the ICS.

Main duties of the job

Business Intelligence (BI) Lead responsibilities concern the secure provision of standardised, visually engaging/powerful, monitoring information in "self-service for the correct audience" mode, and automated production methods.

You lead, design and deliver BI development programmes and products, and manage ongoing BAU delivery. This includes as a minimum

  • End to end technical aspects at every stage of the production pipeline,
  • Data literacy, user centred design, and stakeholder management
  • Best in class BI service (products, library, BAU processes, productivity, relevance)

Overall and together with the other strategic posts and Associate Director, we deliver a value adding service, managing end-to-end delivery, maximising productivity, building on each other's strengths:

  • You act as partners in problem solving, taking a can-do attitude within current capability, continuously developing the service for greater capability going forward.
  • You proactively establish and manage relationships, ensuring the service is continuously aligned to need / organisational objectives, providing essential support to organisational transformation.
  • You carry out analyses, align correct data and methods to problems, progress organisational understanding and learning, over time deploying more advanced approaches.
  • You lead/manage BI and Analytics projects / programmes for service improvement and participate in others.
  • You lead/manage service operational delivery.

Essential

  • Batchelor's degree in computer science, statistics, data science, economics, or other suitably numerate field, Masters degree preferred, or equivalent substantial experience.
  • Experience in end-to-end technical aspects of BI production pipeline, including data acquisition, data engineering, architecture for secure deployment, and automation processes.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business intelligence & analytics services, with a demonstrable focus on BI development programs and products.

Desirable

  • Experience of the NHS system (including key drivers - financial (PBR etc) and others, relationships/power struggles between main bodies, NHS E role etc), an advantage but not essential.
  • Some understanding of Population health Management and/or associated clinical understanding an advantage.

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

Essential

  • Ability to influence and guide followers or members of an organisation / group / team, including guiding senior leaders (and their staff) in productive usage of the BI and Analytics service / developing data literacy competency.
  • Analytical can unpack complex issues/systemic thinking into their component parts, understands / models dynamic interactions between various aspects as well as the impact of the next wider context, can separate meaningful aspects from peripheral details, understands and identify the predictable vs not, can effectively synthesize into core significant elements to inform solution design; can correctly align relevant datasets / construct useful data models manipulate / deploy pertinent analytical methods to inform outcome.
  • Project/programme management comprehensive experience of applying project and programme management principles and techniques.
