Job summary

We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced communications and engagement professional to join our communications team at NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, on a fixed-term basis for 18-months.

As one of our Communications and Engagement Managers, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategies that connect us with our stakeholders, patients, and communities across Coventry and Warwickshire. You will be responsible for developing and implement engaging plans across a variety of channels, ensuring our messages resonate and make a meaningful impact.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Senior Communications and Engagement Manager, you will enjoy working independently and as part of a team, with a flair in developing new ideas, and managing your own workload. Experience working in the NHS or government, nationally or locally or strong experience of working on health-related issues would be beneficial but is not necessary.

You will lead on a portfolio of work, projects, and initiatives, covering all elements of communications, including digital communications, internal and external communications campaigns, change and transformation, design and branding, media handling and more. You will also support our patient and public engagement programmes, helping us to deliver the ICS vision of putting people at the heart of everything we do.

About us

Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is responsible for commissioning NHS services on behalf of people in Coventry and Warwickshire. In consultation with local partners, it plans the delivery of services in a way that both meets local health and care needs and reduces inequalities between different groups. The purpose of our ICB is to bring partner organisations together to:

  1. improve outcomes in population health and healthcare
  2. tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access
  3. enhance productivity and value for money
  4. help the NHS support broader social and economic development.

  • Deliver communications and engagement plans for specific projects/campaigns and managing their effective implementation and evaluation.
  • Produce a broad range of written communications; using experience to identify the right channels and styles for specific audiences.
  • Develop and deliver internal communications plans with clear messages, for a range of internal audiences.
  • Creating and publishing website and intranet content and assisting with the ongoing development of our website and intranet.
  • With support of the Senior Communications and Engagement Manager, manage key projects for engagement and involvement involvement e.g. consultations around proposed changes to services targeting key audiences and tailoring communications and engagement specifically to our diverse audiences
  • To provide expertise to ICB teams around ensuring communication and involvement activity is effective. Depending on the circumstance, the post holder will advise on the most appropriate methodologies for communicating messages / gathering intelligence.
  • Working with and project managing external agencies to deliver communications services, ensuring successful outcomes and value for money.
  • Provide communications and engagement advice and practical support to ICB staff in the delivery of their work.
  • Ensure all communications embody the ICB vision and values and supports its priorities.
  • Maintaining excellent contacts and relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Essential

  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience, specific communications qualification or senior experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on communication / involvement activity

Desirable

  • Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, NHS England, ICBs and individual provider organisations

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of the use of modern technologies to deliver communication / involvement work, in particular social media and digital and evidence of using a multi-channel approach to support external communications.
  • Extensive experience of developing and delivering high volumes of varied content across a range of media
  • Experience of delivering impactful internal and external communications targeting a range of diverse audiences
  • Experience of managing the delivery of communication / involvement channels with a wide range of groups/ staff/audiences
  • Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment with diverse stakeholder input.

  • Experience of working with journalists up to a national level.

  • Specialist knowledge of communications best practice.
