We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated
Designate Nurse with initiative and drive who can work as part of a team and a
system to ensure and promote the safeguarding and well-being of children, young
people and their families living in Kent and Medway.
The successful candidate will provide strategic
safeguarding leadership for NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (NHSKM) exhibiting
excellent leadership and communication skills and will support all safeguarding
activities, to ensure NHSKM meet their safeguarding statutory responsibilities
regarding children and adults.

Main duties of the job
The role provides professional system leadership, challenge and support
to all partners and service providers, including the local authority, Kent Safeguarding
Childrens Multiagency Partnership and Medway Safeguarding Children Partnership
and Kent and Medways Safeguarding Adult Board. This role particularly provides
leadership across all health partners using their expert specialist knowledge
on child safeguarding issues.
The strategic post holder will provide and promote expert safeguarding leadership, professional and strategic challenge
and support to NHSKM on all aspects of safeguarding children in accordance with
national and local requirements arising from relevant legislation and guidance,
working across the health economy.
The job will have competing priorities including managing events that
need an immediate response in short timescales. As a senior and professional
leader, the post holder will have considerable opportunities to influence
change. The successful candidate will come into an established and highly
functioning, supportive team and will have access to regular clinical and team
support.

Essential
- Registered Nurse or midwife with current NMC registration
- Specific post-registration training in safeguarding/child protection at masters level or equivalent
- Extensive knowledge of children's safeguarding, acquired through specific post registration safeguarding training to level 4 at minimum and working towards level 5 of Intercollegiate Guidance for Children Safeguarding
- Management/leadership qualification
Desirable
- Recognised teaching qualification.
Experience
Essential
- Experience as a Named Nurse/Midwife
- Substantial clinical experience relating to the care of babies/children and young people, be currently practicing in the field of safeguarding/child protection, and an understanding of legislation relating to children and young people, and of forensic medicine.
- Experience in supervising and advising staff in safeguarding children.
- Experience of working across organisational boundaries in health and social care
- Experience of working with local Childrens Safeguarding Partnerships and sub-committees and contributing to Serious Case Reviews and domestic homicide reviews
- Experience of developing strategies, clinical guidelines, and policies for safeguarding children
- Experience of developing and delivering education, training, and support strategies for safeguarding
