Join our friendly team as a Adult Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner
One band 4 post available, 30 hours per week (We may consider appointing at band 3 as a development post).
Working in our Ashford team based at St. Stephen's Health Centre, Ashford, covering Folkestone/Hythe/Romney Marsh/Ashford
We're looking for someone who is passionate about helping adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. You'll work closely with our supportive team of SLTs providing high-quality care to our patients in east Kent.
If you tick these boxes then this could be the perfect opportunity for you:
- Have experience (or a keen interest) in working with adults who have swallowing and/or communication challenges
- Are a great communicator (both speaking and listening, non-verbal too)
- Are organised and able to manage your own workload
- Have experience in healthcare or education, including working in the community
A few things to know:
- Car Owner/Driver: You'll need to be able to travel across different areas, so having a car is a must.
- Training & Development: If you don't have the essential experience it may not be an automatic barrier to being offered an interview. We may consider offering at a Band 3 level whilst you work on achieving the required competencies
- Working pattern: Over 4 or 5 days in a pattern that works for you and the service. You will be at based in Ashford several times per week but won't necessarily start and end each day thered.
Main duties of the job
The job will include:
- Carrying out communication therapy with individuals and groups.
- Helping patients to effectively use low- and high-tech communication aids through preparing and programming the aids and supporting the patient and their family/carers in their use.
- Triaging of care home patients on our electronic record system and supporting the SLTs with some admin tasks.
- Carrying out telephone and in person reviews of patients' swallowing and implementing strategies to help them eat and drink safely.
In this role, you'll get to take initiative, manage your day-to-day tasks independently, and receive regular support and guidance from our registered SLTs. You'll also be part of a wider team of therapy assistants across East and West Kent.
