Job summary
You will take a clinical leadership role in developing Paediatric dentistry alongside our existing paediatric specialists within Kent Community Healthcare NHS Trust (KCHFT) Dental Services and in conjunction with the Clinical Director and our Paediatric Dental Consultant, and will be responsible for the provision of advanced clinical care to children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health problems, medically compromised, severe anxiety or phobia and other disability or conditions that directly or indirectly affects their oral health.
You'll provide advanced clinical care to children in line with the defined complexity levels 2 and 3a as detailed in the Commissioning Standards for Dental Specialities - Paediatric Dentistry. This will include sedation and general anaesthesia, domiciliary care, screening and epidemiology and oral health promotion.
You'll be responsible to the Clinical Director and will be expected to take the lead on delivery of the Tooth Fairy general anaesthetic sessions provided at Barts Heath by KCHT NEL Dental Services and will be involved in the development, line management, training and supervision of dentists and may act as clinical supervisor for Health Education England Dental Trainees (including supervision of sedations).
You will act as an ambassador for the Service, promoting the highest standards of excellence in working practices. This role will be mainly clinical, but may involve teaching, training and research.
Main duties of the job
Toprovide high quality preventive and treatment oral care services for children who are unable to accept routine dental care because of some physical, developmental, medical, emotional, sensory, mental or social impairment, or a combination of these factors according to the criteria and protocols relevant to the specialty of Paediatric dentistry. This will include treatment under local anaesthetic, sedation and general anaesthesia as required. Care can be provided in a variety of settings, including clinics, hospitals, domiciliary settings etc.
To support other clinicians within the service in providing Paediatric dentistry, including accepting referrals that meet referral acceptance criteria, assisting in treatment planning and provision of dental care.
To take a clinical leadership role alongside the Paediatric Consultant in developing specialist Paediatric dental services within KCHFT Dental Services, including providing strategic advice to the Clinical Director.
To lead the KCHFT Dental General Anaesthetic Dental Team and provide line management for dental colleagues as required
To participate in the Pan London Managed Clinical Network Stakeholders Meeting for Paediatric Dentistry and the North East London Paediatric Dental Network.
To be a key communication link for KCHFT NEL Dental Services with a range of stakeholders in relation to the provision of Paediatric Dental Services including Commissioning bodies, Public Health England and Local Dental Networks.
