Job summary

We are looking for a Foot Care Assistant to join one of the largest and forward-thinking Podiatry Departments in the Country. This role is for a motivated and professional Foot Care Assistant to provide high quality podiatric care for patients with pathological foot conditions and those individuals at risk of developing serious foot health complications.

You're required to have excellent clinical skills to deliver a range of Podiatry treatments for patients in Kent. You'll work with the local team to ensure service provisions within the team are run effectively and efficiently.

A comprehensive induction programme is given at the commencement of employment. The Podiatry Department also offers its own preceptorship package covering all aspects of peer review, clinical supervision, support and mentoring. A Competency programme is used for staff to ensure all work is to a high clinical standard which can lead to future opportunities for career development into a chosen specialist area which can be supported within the service.

Main duties of the job

We embrace new ways of working using virtual consultations, Wound Matrix and Rio for clinical documentation. The service is delivered in Community Clinics, Health Centres, GP surgeries, Acute and Community Hospital Sites, Prisons and patient's own home. All staff are given the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety and scope of practice.

You will provide nail care sessions from various local community clinics within the area. You'll be responsible for the preparation of the clinical room, ensuring that there is adequate stock to carry out the session. You will ensure that the clinic sessions run effectively and efficiently maximising the use of clinic time. You'll also have the opportunity to assist within nail surgery clinics.

You must have an ability to work following policies, procedures and practices requiring an understanding of podiatry, acquired through on-the job training.

The role includes the provision of foot health education and carries out both non pathological and pathological nail treatments.

You will treat and draw on appropriate skills and knowledge in order to implement individualised care plans for patients previously assessed by a Podiatrist. To assess patients at every visit to ensure no change in vascular, medical or podiatric need, and recognise when signs and symptoms indicate a need to refer the patient back to thepodiatrist and ensure a record of care given is made.
