Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Community Paediatrician to work within the Dartford, Gravesend and Swanley areas in Kent. This is a full time position but we would be interested to hear from candidates interested in part time working also.
The position is based at The Gravesham Community hospital and the successful candidate will work alongside three other consultants and specialist and specialty doctors in this area and as part of a wider Community paediatrics service alongside colleagues covering the West of the county.
This post is for 10 x PA, this is negotiable.As a Consultant in Community Paediatrics your role would entail:
Providing locally based clinics for referrals to the Child Health Services from Paediatricians, General Practitioners, Health Visitors, therapists and colleagues from Education and Social Services.
Multi-disciplinary assessments, preparing reports for children with complex needs referred for medical advice under the 1996 Education Act Code of Practice.
The provision of appropriate professional advice for the Social Services Department concerning the placement of children for fostering and/or adoption, and the management of deprived and disadvantaged children.
The provision of medical services and health reports on infants/children/ adolescents who are thought to have been abused or at risk of abuse in accordance with the agreed procedures and the Children Act 1989 requirements.
Main duties of the job
Participating in the Kent wide Paediatric Sexual Assault Referral Centre rota (daytime) for the assessment of children suspected of having been sexually abused.
This is usually in conjunction with a Forensic Medical Examiner and the rota is shared with other Consultants and Speciality Doctors.
Assisting the Clinical Director to ensure the provision and maintenance of appropriate Child Health Services in the Community.
Triaging referrals for children in whom there are neurodevelopmental concerns, a duty shared with other consultants.
Providing a service for Neurodevelopmental disorders and behavioural paediatrics, including the assessment, diagnosis and management of children and young people below the age of 11 years with suspected autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and other common behavioural disorders and co-morbidities.
Liaising closely with the Education Authority and Social Services Department to provide a service for children with special needs. Fulfil the Trust's obligations laid down in the Education Acts by identifying children with special educational needs and Health provision for the needs of those 16-19 year olds still at school.
