The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Wirral Community is excited to recruit a speech and language therapist into our successful and hardworking community service.
Our community Speech and Language Therapy team, based in Wallasey works across Wirral. The Wirral Speech & Language therapy service is committed to developing clinical specialist career pathways and opportunities for developing SLTs. Our team has close links with the acute Speech and language therapy team and contributes in supporting development across the SLT service.
We are proud to offer a fortnightly videofluoroscopy service at Arrowe Park Hospital and support all staff to have the opportunity to develop skills in this clinic.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual who is able to work independently with a broad range of communication and swallowing presentations across community settings. You will have the opportunity to work with patients in outpatient settings, in care homes and in their own homes and travelling across the Wirral area. Fortnightly videofluoroscopy clinics are also led by our team.
This role involves working directly with adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties. It will involve carrying out assessments and therapy programmes.
We are looking for an individual who is motivated with their development, enthusiastic and flexible in their approach to work. You will need to have excellent communication skills, be able to work as part of a team and be able to motivate patients. You will be able to use highly developed interpersonal skills to quickly establish and foster strong relationships with a range of key individuals and MDTs.
You will be working alongside experienced Speech and Language Therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team. You will also be required to participate in supervision and mentoring for other team members and students as part of the role.
Being a car driver and having a full UK driving license is essential to this role.

Qualifications and Professional Training
Essential
- SLT Degree or recognised equivalent
- Reg. member of HPC
- Evidence of having completed some short courses including a basic dysphagia course
- Have undertaken an accredited dysphagia course
- Reg. member of RCSLT
Desirable
- Membership of an appropriate SIG
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years in a post where 25% or more of working time was dedicated to patients with acquired problems
- Can manage own caseload of complex problems with minimal support
- Has experience of working with complex cases alongside or with supervision from a specialist therapist including those with dysphagia
- Knowledge of current trends in the management of communication disorders in adults
Desirable
- Awareness of Total Communication
- Experience of work in a variety of settings
- Evidence of postgraduate study
