Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 School Health Screener in the 0-19+ Team to work with the Central Team.

To help support to develop the 0-19+ Health and Wellbeing services working in partnership with the Local Authority, partner agencies and Primary Care Team.To deliver the school aged screening programme for audiology, vision and the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP).To develop and deliver health care and health promotion, using evidence based practice and professional leadership and management.To contribute to the development of best practice and facilitate shared learning to develop services and initiatives that meet local needs, in relation to aims and objectives of Wirral Community Health and Care NHSFoundation Trust.To develop effective links with key people in delivering services to enable people to improve their own health.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Works across Cheshire East supporting delivery of the Healthy Child Programme 0-19+.
  • Deliver the school aged screening programme for audiology, vision and the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP).
  • Plan, organise and liaise with schools to undertake height and weight monitoring and hearing and vision screening. Support the immunisation campaigns
  • Deal with enquiries from parents generated from the height and weight monitoring and hearing and vision screening programme. informing parents in relation to the results of their childs weight and engage in difficult conversations with those who have a child that is overweight.
  • Provide advice to pupils, parents/carers and school staff regarding the screening, vaccination and obesity monitoring programmes.
  • Provides a holistic approach to promoting health and wellbeing whilst undertaking unsupervised contact, recognising when to liaise and report to registered clinical staff.
  • Provide health education sessions to children in schools e.g. healthy eating
  • Daily input of screening data .
  • Assist in producing reports on screening and immunisations figures and uptake for service area.
  • Assist in the development of materials and activities for inclusion in health promotion and behaviour change programmes.
  • Promotes positive health to individuals, families, groups, communities and relevant agencies.
  • Prepare Health Education displays and maintain materials/leaflets, including ordering and stock management.
  • Responsible for the safe use of screening and the transportation of equipment, which includes: height measures, scales, audiology and screening equipment. Ensure equipment is safe by testing and reporting faults or concerns to Screening Programme Co-ordinator.
  • Support the CE Hub with scanning and inputting onto electronic notes
  • Works in accordance with current Trust policies and procedures, ensuring safeguarding procedures are maintained.
  • Assists in the learning experience of students in their community placement and participates in the orientation of new team members.
  • Liaises with other statutory agencies and voluntary agencies as appropriate.
  • Participates and contribute to regular management supervision with Line Manager.
  • Participates in annual appraisal and PDR as per Trust policy.
  • Possesses the Trusts core competencies for role and attends mandatory training relevant to role.
  • As a lone worker adheres to the Trust health and safety and lone working policies.

Administration

  • Maintains accurate paper and computer records as outlined in the NMC guidelines
  • Works in accordance with the Trusts policies/procedures and clinical guidelines.
  • Reports any absence from duty to the Screening Programme Co-ordinator and the Service lead in accordance with Trust guidelines.
  • Maintains own professional development.
  • Attends essential learning in line with Trust guidelines.
