Derbyshire Community Health Services NHSFT

The closing date is 05 February 2025

Job summary

A unique opportunity awaits as a Band 5 Community Staff nurse within the 5-19 service in the High Peaks, North Dales and Glossoplocality.

This is a development opportunity for those wishing to increase their skills and progress their career in Children's Community Services.

We are a fast paced, innovative, dedicated team that requires skills including a positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to communicate effectively, as well as being motivated, well organised and able to work on your own initiative and being a team player.

You will have a passion for promoting public health and supporting children, young people and their families to adopt healthy lifestyles.

Applications are welcome from registered nurses, ideally with post-qualification experience, and an interest in developing their skills in working with children and their families within a community public health and multi-agency environment.

On completion of the first year in post there may be the opportunity to apply to complete the training for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification (SCPHN) School Nursing Pathway; you will be supported in your development towards this.

We can offer a thorough, bespoke induction program, supportive mentorship arrangements, regular clinical and safeguarding supervision as well as ensuring support with continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The perfect match for our team will become part of the 5-19 team and be supported and guided by our service development lead.

Our School Nurses work with children and their families both in schools and in the home environment to improve health and social outcomes and make a real difference in a true multi-agency environment. Applicants must be confident in working autonomously as well as part of a team.

The office base for this post is at New Mills however, due to the nature of the role, applicants must be able to travel independently across the locality which stretches from Glossop to Matlock, and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. It will also be necessary to travel to other parts of Derbyshire on occasion to undergo training and attend service meetings.

You will be an integral member of the 5-19 team, supporting the Band 6 SCPHN's alongside other Community Public Health Staff Nurses in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.

Your key role will be to support the delivery of bespoke public health sessions in schools addressing identified high impact areas, care planning for children with specific health needs and providing advice and support to parents regarding physical and emotional health needs of their child.
