To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.

To formulate and deliver individual treatment programmes based on sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options, using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and treatment skills, eg respiratory therapy techniques, exercise therapy, patient education, and other techniques as appropriate.

To effectively use a wide range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to negotiate and engage with patients across a diverse multicultural and intellectual spectrum. This will include patients who may have difficulties with understanding or communicating. For example, people with a learning disability, blind, deaf, dysphasic, cognitively impaired or who do not have English as a first language.

To appropriately convey complex information to other health and social care professionals to ensure collaborative working and the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary patient-centred service.

To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention.

Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

Be responsible for organising and planning own caseload and others (e.g. Technical Instructors/Physiotherapy Assistants) and use of other resources to meet service and patient priorities, re-adjusting plans as situations change/arise, eg other colleagues sickness/annual leave.

To use acquired knowledge to identify those patients requiring on-going rehabilitation and refer to the most appropriate service to fulfil these needs in order to facilitate discharge.

Be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with DCHS NHS Trust and HPC Standards, including producing timely and informative written reports and discharge summaries.

Be responsible for collecting statistics as required by the clinical areas and DCHS for service level monitoring.

Participate in staff appraisal scheme and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programme and the progression of those appraised.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and

Essential

• BSc Degree /Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
• Health Professions Council Registration (HPC)
• Documented evidence of Continuous Professional Development
• Evidence of good evaluations of undergraduate placements

Desirable

• CSP Registration

Experience and Knowledge Requi

Essential

• Broad range of undergraduate experience on placements

Desirable

• Supervision of less experienced staff, students Assistants and Technical Instructors.
• Broad based rotational experience in an NHS environment.
• Knowledge of Community Trust Physiotherapy Service
• Evidence of further post graduate theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in musculoskeletal conditions.
