Job summary

This a rare and exciting opportunity to apply for a Team Leader role in the DCHS Children's SLT Service. You will be leading the Children's SLT service jointly with another Team Leader, who is a registered SLT.

The post is advertised at B7 pending outcome of the job evaluation process.

The service covers children from birth to 19 years and developing services for young adults. Children and young people are in a range of settings: home, education, early years, young offender's services, hospital in and outpatients etc. This post is responsible for staff from Bands 3-7.

You will be employed by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS FT as part of their SLT service and as such have access to a team of colleagues with a range of skills and commitment to providing high standards of evidence based approaches, you will be supported by SLT team leader colleagues, an SLT Quality Manager and an SLT service manager .

We are a large and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy service of over 100 staff, working across a range of service areas in Derbyshire with children and adults, there is a focus on working innovatively and a commitment to building partnerships to enable the best outcomes for children and families.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a person who will be a strong, compassionate and visible leader with the ability to inspire, challenge and support colleagues to deliver our service.

You will be able to demonstrate leadership skills in developing service provision and clinical pathways relating to children's SLT. You will have a commitment to providing a high standard of patient focussed care and be a strong team player, with the ability to lead and influence others.

You will be confident in providing operational management and leadership, leading and supporting service development and improvement.

There will be line management responsibility for colleagues ranging from specialist SLTs to SLT support workers. An understanding of the role of SLT in supporting children and young people is required.

You will be comfortable in building relationships with partners outside of SLT services, including local authority colleagues, with a clear understanding of the impact of health inequalities on life opportunities, We are building a focus on improving outcomes for children and young people across universal , targeted and specialist levels of support, as we collaborate on developing a robust SLCN pathway.

  • Recognised Degree qualification or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy

  • Demonstrates compassionate leadership skills as well as ability to be a good team member

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the speech and language therapy profession
