Job summary
The Paediatric Nurse Advisors are a small team of Children's nurses who work closely with parents and carers, as well as other health and care professionals, to offer nursing care and support to children with health needs in order for them to attend school safely.
For example-
Providing advice and training for families and school staff to support the needs of the child.
Supporting children with complex health needs and disabilities within the school setting.
Formulating health care plans with families for use in school.
Signposting to other services.
Providing a link between health, schools and families.
- Attending appointments and reviews.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to participated as part of an integrated team using a person centred approach, access, plan, implement and evaluate care delivered.

To assist the training of less experienced registered staff, nursing auxiliaries, health care assistants and student nurses ensuring compliance to NMC standards to support learning and assessment in practice.
To provide, implement and regularly assess the teaching of specific nursing techniques, including invasive procedures to identified staff in a variety of settings.
To support and train parents/carers in the correct use of identified medical equipment.
Administer medications, treatments and interventions as prescribed and to monitor their effects.

To contributed to the development of guidelines, protocols and care pathways for the management of children with complex surgical problems, enteral feeding, oxygen, catheterisation etc.
Ensure that all practice is in accordance with the most recent NMC Code: Standards of conduct, performance and ethics: Standards for Medicines, Management and Standards of Record Keeping.
To comply with all policies, procedures, clinical protocols, standards and guild lines based on legislation, evidence based nursing practice and NMC guidelines for conduct and professional practice.
Ensures accurate record keeping as per Trust policy and NMC Guidelines.
Adhere to the Medicines Management Code and NMC Standards for the safe keeping and administration of medicine.
Contribute to the accuracy of statistical returns.
Maintain awareness of clinical and professional developments in nursing and participate in nursing research to enhance patient care.
To actively participate in the Trust Management, clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions and courses required.
Provide support, guidance and supervision to other staff as required.
Organisational
To act in accordance with the Norfolk Safeguarding Childrens Board policies and procedures in relation to child protection issues. To attend annual update session for Level 3 safeguarding training.
To apply analytical skills through application of Framework for Assessment of Need in order to support assessment process, report writing.
To collect data as required on caseload activity
To participate in clinical and child protection supervision according to Trust policy.
To evaluate and develop own knowledge and practice using personal development plans and appropriate learning opportunities in order to apply learning to future practice.
To be cost effective in the use of resources.
Co-operate fully with the implementation of the Trusts Health and Safety arrangements, reporting accidents/incidents to the nurse in charge/team leader, and initiating a full investigation in a timely manner, whilst taking responsibility to complete appropriate documentation.
Research & Development
May be required to undertake surveys or audits, as necessary to own work; may occasionally participate in R&D, clinical trials or equipment testing.
