Job summary

As a Clinic Assistant in Re-Enablement Services, the post holder will support various clinical teams. This role requires individuals who enjoy being patient-facing, and take pride in, not only being diligent, but also in showing a high level of care for patients and colleagues alike.

Main duties of the job

The role of Clinic Assistant in Re-Enablement Services involves working with services supporting patients with various physical disabilities. As well as face-to-face patient contact, the overall purpose and role of the Clinic Assistant in Re-Enablement Services is to be responsible for reception and clinic areas, clinic room equipment, act as chaperone if requested and in line with the Trust's chaperone policy, review of clinic lists ahead of clinic sessions, equipment and consumables ordering and monitoring of stock, and management of lease vehicles. This role will work closely with clinical teams and the Wheelchair Repairs Service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be required to review the patient list for that day, take note of any particular needs the patients may have and provide the necessary equipment for the clinic.

Be available to assist and chaperone patients if requested as per NCH&C chaperone policy.

To liaise with the clinician and their patients to ensure smooth running of the clinics, including interaction with patients, carers, families and other professionals.

Post will be required to support home visits for manual handling and chaperone.

Post holder required to support with personal care for Re-enablement services including Prosthetics.

Monitor stock for clinics and order equipment, consumables, patient information leaflets and stationery as required. Ensure paper supply for photocopier.

Report any equipment failures to the line manager and ensure that replacement equipment is sourced in a timely way to avoid any down time.

Responsible for developing and implementing a hand hygiene audit programme for the service that ensures compliance against Trust policy.

Responsible for reporting equipment faults.

Post holder will be required to order stock and uniform via PowerGate.

Post holder will be required to use SystmOne, Equip asset database, PowerGate, standard keyboard skills.

Ensure that the reception and clinic areas are welcoming, clean, tidy and free from hazards.

Undertake daily safety checks of the reception and clinic areas and report any concerns to the most appropriate person.

Take receipt of equipment deliveries, unpack boxed equipment (and dismantle boxes for recycling) and accessories and check order is complete.

The post holder is responsible for ensure that each clinic room has the correct equipment available and ready to use ie. powered wheelchairs and hoists are fully charged, so that clinicians can undertake patient assessments, consultations and handover appointments.

Regularly check safety, suitability and cleanliness of toys in the waiting area. In line with local policy ensure there is a procedure in place to document when toys are cleaned and or replaced.

Ensuring that lease vehicles are clean, fuelled and supplied with screen wash.

Assist clinical staff with the loading and unloading of equipment from lease vehicles.

Post holder is required to support with de-escalating situations that can become challenging.

Post holder will be required to support with communicating challenging information to patient who have learning disabilities and learning impairment.

Communicate with external stakeholders such as 3rd party suppliers, medical professionals and carers.

Communicating with Wheelchair repairs services on a daily basis.

Post holder is required to have good communicating skills verbally and in writing.
