Job summary

The Clinical Governance and Quality Director is a developing role in NCH&C following establishment of the post in 2023. This role requires an individual who is able to apply dynamic, logical, and analytical skills to a complex and diverse portfolio, as well as demonstrate effective and up to date clinical expertise. The successful candidate will need to a strong team player, be able to demonstrate highly effective leadership skills, values, and behaviours and an ability to deliver to a high quality standard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the patient involvement and engagement and patient safety teams, and acts as the lead advisor to the Director of Nursing and Quality on specialist areas of practise relating to patient and carer involvement and patient safety.

The role covers a wide range of activities including Care Quality Commission co-ordination, leadership for Quality Improvement, and leadership and strategic development for the tissue viability and wound care service.

The role will support and develop a variety of important strategies and functions, including;

  • The patient and carer components of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
  • The Patient and Carer Experience Strategy.
  • Complaints, claims and inquests process assurance and development.
  • Data triangulation methodology and reporting.
  • Co-ordination, development and completion of the Annual Quality Account.

  • Trust wide triangulation of quality and safety data, including patient safety data, complaints, patient, and carer feedback, safeguarding and learning from incidents to drive quality improvement change.
  • Acting as organisational lead for Quality Improvement (QI), they will lead the implementation of the Trust wide strategy, including the delivery of effective QI processes, governance and direction for Trust staff.
  • You will act as the coordinating lead for CQC inspections within the Trust, bringing together the data and actions to validate assurance levels.
  • The role will lead the Trust wound care and tissue viability service and strategy development.
  • You will represent the trust at ICB forums, committees and workgroups including clinical safety, clinical governance, wound care, and equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • You will be the delegated clinical lead within the organisation to ensure the organisations statutory obligations around the Equality Act are met with regard to service delivery and will lead the development, in conjunction with the relevant Human Resources Lead of the Trust equality, diversity and inclusion work plan and its delivery.

  • Professional knowledge obtained via degree level professional registration, plus additional specialist management knowledge acquired by training and experience to Masters level equivalent

  • Wide ranging knowledge of codes of practise and registration requirements.
