Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join the IPAC team at NCHC NHS Trust. This is 1.2WTE of a post, Monday - Friday (9-5) with on-call requirements. Consideration to part time and job share with core hours of 9-5. This post will provide senior cover and supervision to the IPAC team and act as a subject matter expert to the organisation, the ability to travel is essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder has a responsibility to monitor and act upon standards of Infection Prevention & Control that fall below the acceptable standard and legislative responsibilities.
This position is involved in ensuring Trust complies with its legislative and licensing requirements, i.e. The Health and Social Care Act 2008, and for the provision of specialist advice and guidance for all health care professionals and support staff across the Trust.

Job responsibilities
- To act as a subject matter expert (SME) demonstrating advanced knowledge and skill beyond that associated with traditional nursing roles, including the integration of research evidence into practice by expert clinical reasoning and decision making
- As an acknowledged expert in the provision of patient management in relation to Infection Prevention & Control the post holder will where required be responsible for advising on the management of defined group/groups of patients requiring specific support in collaboration with clinicians
- To utilise clinical reasoning skills and evidence based knowledge in the management of patients with highly complex presentations and to be clinically competent to utilise expert skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings
- To develop, establish and implement guidelines and clinician led initiatives, particularly where precedents do not exist
- To work with other multi-disciplinary colleagues to create, develop and design care pathways for particular groups of patients with the aim of disseminating good practice and improving outcomes throughout the trust
- To make independent clinical decisions and initiate investigations, care/treatment
- To direct and use the results of specialist investigations (e.g. microbiology and virology testing) to assist formulation of diagnoses and advise on patient management from a range of interventions
- To interpret and analyse complex clinical and non-clinical facts, to regularly provide expert advice and second opinion to health care professionals, including when views or guidance may differ or conflict
- To use theoretical and practical knowledge to refer to other departments/colleagues within or outside the Trust as necessary relying on own interpretation of investigation results and clinical decision making
- To lead collaboration with clinical teams/general management, in order to ensure there is a defined pathway of care for the patient with an infection including timely transfer/discharge
- To utilise expert re-assessment to ensure that the management of planned intervention with other MDT members is maintained via the development of a systematic process of follow up of patients across the Trust and wider health economy
- To ensure that appropriate, consistent and realistic information is provided to patients and relatives
- To advise on the Trusts nursing and professional agenda from an IP&C perspective
