Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Starfish Learning Disability Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (LD-CAMHS) as a Specialist Children's Learning Disability Nurse (0.6 WTE).

We are a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapy Practitioners, Lead and Specialist Children's Learning Disability Nurses, Specialist Nurse Prescribers, Specialist Family Support Workers, Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapist, a Therapy Assistant Practitioner and a Clinical Coordinator.

We work across the beautiful county of Norfolk to deliver assessment and intervention for school-aged children/young people (CYP) who have a diagnosed learning disability and who are experiencing significant behavioural and/or mental health difficulties.

We work with the CYP and their families as well as with other professionals involved such as schools, social workers, short breaks providers to understand their strengths and difficulties to help support them to thrive.

We welcome applications from candidates who are enthusiastic, motivated, and passionate about working with CYP and their families.

The role is mainly community based and will therefore involve seeing children at home, in their schools / nurseries, respite, and occasionally in clinic.

The team cover a large area, so it is essential that you can drive and have access to a vehicle.

Main duties of the job

You will have extensive experience of working with children and young people and/or in learning disability or mental health. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills.

You will be passionate and enthusiastic in your approach to service delivery and committed to improving the lives of children and young people.

You will manage a complex clinical caseload. You will be an excellent problem solver and be able to give advice and recommendations to families and other professionals alike.

You will be expected to use a range of assessment skills, interviews with parents and carers, and observations in a range of settings, to inform the assessment and diagnostic process as well as the planning and provision of interventions.

There will be opportunities to contribute to the supervision, teaching and training of other professionals within the team as well as students.

All staff have regular clinical and managerial supervision.

  • To provide clinical nursing services for children and young people under 18 years of age.
