Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialist Palliative Care Nurse Team based at Priscilla Bacon Centre. We are looking for a highly motivated nurse wishing to join this team as a band 6 Associate Specialist Palliative Care Nurse. You will be supported by a band 7 whilst holding your own clinical caseload.

Main duties of the job

The majority of the role will be clinical however we are looking for someone that is also happy to deliver education to stakeholders. You must have experience working with palliative care patients and a good understanding of symptom control. Development opportunities in regards to learning and nurse prescribing will be offered.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will deliver evidence based clinical care for patients with life-threatening illness who have complex specialist palliative care needs, from the point of diagnosis onwards under the supervision of the band 7 Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurses.The post holder will manage their own supervised clinical caseload, supporting patients and their families within their homes and out-patient/community hospital settings. They will linkclosely with the primary care team, the acute specialist palliative care team and the rest of the services within Priscilla Bacon Centre.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registered 1st level nurse
  • Diploma in nursing and/or study to degree level or equivalent

Desirable

  • Relevant post registration qualification in palliative care/ oncology
  • Mentorship or equivalent teaching qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Has had an understanding of specialist palliative care/oncology
  • Ability to manage situations/environments

Desirable

  • Knowledge to Health Care Policy and reform relevant to specialist palliative care etc Ambitions for end of life care
