Job summary

The Apprentice Rehabilitation Assistant will work as part of the multidisciplinary team providing support to therapists by carrying out individual programmes of care for patients at Ogden Court.

They will be expected to work alongside the therapists or alone but under the therapists direction. The post holder will be expected to facilitate the links between all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Alongside this the apprentice will be required to undertake and complete the Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship and End Point Assessment and enrol with a training provider who will deliver the qualification. The apprentice will gain experience in the NHS over the 14 month appointment. This will be delivered as work based learning.

Main duties of the job

In order to be eligible for Apprenticeship Funding, you must:

  • Be aged 16 or over
  • Have lived in the UK/EEA for 3 or more consecutive years

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Complete a programme of induction training (both employer and therapy specific).
  • Carry out routine intervention under the direct supervision of a therapist.
  • To be able to support delivery of therapy rehabilitation programmes (as instructed by a qualified therapist) with patients and/or their carers at the rehabilitation unit, at the patients home or in the community.
  • To be able to assist therapists in the rehabilitation treatment of patients, e.g. falls assessment, activity of daily living assessments, gait assessment.
  • To support specified observation and information gathering to contribute to the therapists assessment.
  • To support monitoring of patients progress and report this appropriately to the relevant member(s) of the MDT.
  • To be aware of the function of therapy equipment and be able to monitor the use/misuse of any equipment issued to patients and/or their carers.
  • To support the demonstration and instruction in the use and maintenance of equipment for patients/carers as deemed necessary by a therapist and to be able to adjust the equipment (within manufacturers guidelines) to suit the patients and/or carers needs.
  • Support monitoring of stock levels of equipment and help maintain all stock in good working order. Become familiar with use of computer systems/brochures/paperwork to achieve this.
  • Find and use relevant sources of information to support and influence practice.
  • Share information and ideas with colleagues.
  • Promote new knowledge to enhance your skills and practice.
  • Demonstrate the required understanding of manual handling issues.
  • Develop a broad understanding of the various neurological diagnoses and associated problems which patients may present with.
