Job summary

Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit caring and passionate people as Trainee Nursing Associates to work with our teams in the community.

The Nursing Associate is a new generic nursing role in England that bridges the gap between Healthcare Support Workers and Registered Nurses. You will deliver hands-on, person-centred care as part of the nursing team.

These degree apprenticeship positions are paid at Band 3. Subject to successful completion of the 2-year university programme there will be guaranteed progression to a Band 4 Nursing Associate role with the Trust.

The roles can provide a steppingstone to a career in nursing or ready individuals for a valued career as a registered nursing associate. Successful candidates will obtain a nationally recognised qualification and professional registration, whilst earning a salary.

The 2-year work-based learning programme will be delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University and will require candidates to be committed and dedicated to their personal and professional development.

Applicants will need to be able to evidence GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above or evidence of an equivalent English and Maths qualification.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Day in September, ran jointly by the Trust and the University.

Main duties of the job

The Trainee Nursing associate will:

  • Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a registered nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence.
  • Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS and Bridgewater values.
  • Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual.
  • Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities, to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting.
  • Work with a supervisor taking responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placements and through attending the Nursing Associate university programme of study.
  • Provide feedback to assist in the evaluation of the Nursing Associate progamme.

On completion of the Nursing Associate apprenticeship they will have developed the ability to work without direct supervision; at times delivering care independently in line with the individual’s defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nursing Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.
