Job summary
Do you have a background in repairing and delivering equipment and have experience of dealing with elderly/disabled people? If so, this interesting role could be for you!
We are looking for someone to work part-time as part of the Warrington Wheelchair Service, to support the team with the maintenance, repair, reconditioning, and servicing of both manual and powered wheelchairs. The Support Services team are a valued part of the smooth running of the Wheelchair Service and provide support to the Therapy Team.
You will work as part of a friendly team of 11 staff; composed of Wheelchair Therapists, Wheelchair Technicians and Administration Assistants, dedicated to the provision of an efficient and patient orientated wheelchair support service and will be the first point of contact for patients, so good customer service skills are essential. The team has a ‘can do’ attitude and aims to provide an excellent service to patients, their relatives, and carers.
You must have the ability to work on your own initiative and be a good organiser of yourself and your workload.
The working pattern is 2.5 days per week to be worked on consecutive days. There are rest facilities available and a staff kitchen. There are shops nearby (2 minutes’ drive) for buying food if needed.
Interviews will take place on Tuesday 6th September 2022.
Main duties of the job
The main duties include undertaking planned preventative maintenance, repairs, and reconditioning of wheelchairs, as well as acceptance testing new wheelchairs. This includes standard, complex, bespoke, and electric powered wheelchairs. It includes a responsibility around stock control and ordering of parts. The post holder will also be delivering wheelchairs to service users and collecting wheelchairs that are no longer required. Some of the work will be in the dedicated workshop and some will be in the community for example, in patient’s homes, schools, nursing homes and day centres.
Use of IT for accurate records is important, using the software BEST.
There may be times when the role is emotionally demanding e.g., collecting a wheelchair from bereaved relatives, or repairing a chair in use by a vulnerable or terminally ill service user, and sensitivity is required along with good communication skills.
The Wheelchair and Specialist Seating Service has two aspects: the clinical, where service users are assessed, and the workshop which is where this post sits. The two parts of the service work closely together and an admin team supports both aspects.
All training is provided and regular 1-1 supervision sessions are held with the Rehabilitation Engineer Technician.
