Bridgewater`s 0-19 services in
Warrington and Halton are looking for enthusiastic and self- motivated
individual`s to work as a public health support worker in Warrington or
Halton`s school-aged immunisation team.
The role primarily involves
providing efficient and effective confidential clerical and administrative
support to the Immunisation Team as well as supporting children and young
people presenting for vaccination.
Due to the nature of the
school-aged vaccination programmes for most of the positions available, we are
looking for candidates who can work flexibly to meet service need. This will
include working more hours during the delivery of the flu programme (September
to December) than during the delivery of the other programmes (January to
August), as well as weekend working when required (approximately once a month)
The
position is for 1 x 0.4WTE term time only (40 weeks) 18 hours a week.
Please note: There is a
requirement to work approximately 1 Saturday every two months as part of weekly working hours.
Our ideal candidate will have
experience of working with children and young people as well as working in a
customer facing environment. They must have excellent communication skills and
be able to perform general administration duties to a high standard. They will
be enthusiastic, well organized, have the ability to handle routine queries
pro-actively and use their own initiative.
Main duties of the job
As a 0-19 Public Health Support Worker, the post holder
will support the delivery of high-quality childhood immunisation programmes,
delivering large scale immunisation and vaccination programmes within community
and educational settings.
The post holder will perform
administration duties to a high standard.
The post holder will support
children as directed by an immuniser, during all stages of the vaccination
process.
The post holder will deliver
required activities in the home, school or clinic environment under the
direction of an Immunisation Nurse
The successful candidates will
be predominantly supporting the delivery of the immunisation programmes
delivered to school aged children across either Warrington or Halton. This will
include the Childhood flu, HPV, Men ACWY and Td/IPV immunisation programmes.

Principle Responsibilities of a Public Health Support Worker within any 0-19 service
Clinical
- To provide breast feeding support to families across Warrington and support local Breast feeding support groups following appropriate training
- Provide sign posting as appropriate for families and children and young people across the 0-19 service following completion of training
- To undertake appropriate follow up to clinic defaulters under the direction of the Health Visitor and/or school nurse, checking addresses and rebooking appointments.
- To ensure the smooth running of a variety of clinical sessions such as, community medical officer clinic, 6-8 weeks, 12 months and 2 year child health surveillance clinic, immunisation sessions, NCMP and Bussom Buddy Breast Feeding support groups
- Support agreed PSHE and health promotion activities for all ages of children within the 0-19 service, in a variety of settings such as school, home visits, childrens centre, public buildings and community clinics after the completion of training and assessment of competence
- To prepare resources/materials/information for health education group/individual sessions for the 0-19 service
- To provide home safety advice unsupervised in clients own home following training and assessment of competence
- Assist the 0-19 Team members in preparation for all 0-19 Core Service activities within School, Home, Childrens centres, Clinic/Health Centre, Community environments
- Maintain an effective cold chain by ensuring safe storage of vaccine by rotating stock and monitoring vaccine fridge temperature adhering to the current Immunisation Policy and advise members of the 0-19 service to low stock levels to maintain adequate vaccine supply
- To support the delivery of Child Health surveillance activities for the 0-19 service by preparing and tidying rooms/equipment/resources
- To Measure childrens heights, weights and head circumferences and plot centiles after the completion of training and assessment of competence in order to complete the delivery of the healthy child programme offer and the national child measurement programme(NCMP)
- To support the 0-19 Team with a range of administrative duties: scanning onto electronic patient records, filing, organising clinics, making individual client appointments, ensuring adequate supply of referral forms etc.

- Recognise respect and support cultural variations and spiritual beliefs that influence parenting and nutrition
- To report signs of child neglect/abuse to School Nurse/Health Visitor, colleagues immediately
Management and clerical
1. To be responsible and accountable for timely and accurate record keeping including attendance or non attendance at clinic appointments in the Electronic patient record.
2. Check the 0-19 service NHS mail boxes, signposting any messages/referrals appropriately.
3. Support all national immunisation and screening programmes when required.Ensuring that all lists and consent forms are up to date and prepared in a timely way and to co-ordinate appropriate administrative support within immunisation clinics in schools.
4. Record data as requested for service development and audit purpose
5. Maintain strict confidentiality for all clients
6. To store and maintain records in accordance within Trust Policy
7. To contribute to the development of and implementation of polices, procedures and guidelines relevant to own area of work
8. To complete statistical data and other returns promptly in accordance with the needs of the service
9. Plans and organises own workload and informs team leader
10. Maintains a current up to date electronic diary of activity

1. To participate in the Personal Development Review process and 1 to 1 to identify opportunities for enhancing professional or clinical knowledge
2. To attend 0-19 team meetings and ensure read minutes if not able to attend to maintain up to date knowledge
Teaching and Learning

3. Assist in the learning experience of students and support induction of new staff in the community placement
Communication
- Ensure a friendly and welcoming point of contact to all service users, giving prompt attention to their requests, directing enquiries and signposting as appropriate.
