Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an essential member of the Salaried Dental Service taking a leadership and team building role. They will work as part of a team of clinicians within the Dental Network in Bridgewater Community NHS Foundation Trust. They will work closely with the Clinical Director and specialist leads in special care and paediatrics to ensure that service users receive high quality care in a timely fashion and that care remains free from sigma, discrimination or harm.

They will be expected to be a visible and responsive leader setting the standards for others to follow and to be engaged in service improvement.

Clinically the post involves the provision of comprehensive routine and specialised care to children and adults whose dental needs cannot be fulfilled within General Dental Practice. This includes treatment under sedation and general anaesthetic.

The post is based within the areas we serve in Cheshire and Merseyside and the location of work will be based on service need.

Job description

Job responsibilities

We would expect the post holder to:

  • To manage and provide high quality treatment planning, preventative and NHS dental care treatment services for patients accepted by our service
  • Be able to provide the long term maintenance care for patients with moderate, severe or extreme BDA case mix scores
  • Organise and undertake shared care with local GDPs for patients with moderate case mix scores
  • Undertake treatment with both inhalation and intravenous sedation and be comfortable in providing both paediatric exodontia under GA and adult GA cons.
  • Demonstrate an additional skill in restorative or other dental treatment for example prosthetics
  • Provide the role of clinical lead at base and designated clinics and be available to clinicians for advice and support
  • Maintain and develop relationships with local GDPs and the LDN
  • Develop relationships with other parts of the health economy
  • Undertake regular reviews of case load
  • Ensure that appropriate recall intervals are being set
  • To take a role in the performance management of the SLAs we have with the commissioner ensuring successful delivery both in qualitative and quantitative terms
  • To be responsible for the line management of clinicians and dental care professionals working within the service
  • Organise training for staff or groups of staff in a clinical area
  • Provide treatment on a domiciliary basis if required
  • To be actively engaged in service improvement
  • To maintain professional knowledge, skills and awareness of current developments within dentistry and participate in professional development activities such as
