Job summary
This trust is looking to employ a motivated dentist who will be
able to provide an excellent level of care for patients who fall within the
remit of the Community Dental Service. Depending on experience and professional
developmental goals, this may include care under conscious sedation, general
anaesthetic and care in the domiciliary setting. You will also be
required to work alongside and supervise the clinical practice of dental
therapists and hygienist. This post is suitable for candidates who are looking
to gain experience working in special care or paediatric dentistry in a
community setting. The trust offers an accredited training programme forstaff to become qualified to deliver both
inhalation sedation and intravenous sedationfor our patients - successful candidates can be considered
for this programme. The candidate should have a passion for child and adult
dental health and be keen to make a difference to the vulnerable patients seen
by our service. Being able to communicate effectively with both patients and
staff is essential as you be looking after some of the most vulnerable people
in society. We have a number of experienced clinicians available to provide

There are two part time posts available based across the Oldham,
Bury and Rochdale Dental Directorate the hours can be discussed further at
interview.
Main duties of the job
Management of both
adults and children with needs beyond the scope of general practice.
Provide a wide range of primary
dental care for patients including children, people with disabilities, older
people and those referred by general dental practitioners.
Treatment on referral
of patients requiring General Anaesthetic, intravenous sedation and inhalation
sedation. Dentists new to undertaking
treatment with general anaesthesia will be mentored by a senior clinician ultimately
this post holder will be expected to undertake single handed lists
Provision of a
domiciliary service to housebound adults.
Participate in the
Epidemiology programme where required.
Participate in audit and peer review as required

Bridgewater Community Dental Network ensures community dental services are available to a combined population of over two million people.
The network provides specialized dental care on referral to people of all ages, disabilities and special needs which make it impossible for them to access treatment from an NHS family dentist.
Our services include Paediatric Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry, Paediatric General Anaesthetic Services, Special Care General Anaesthetic Services, Intravenous sedation, and Inhalation Sedation for patients with anxiety issues, Domiciliary services, Minor Oral Surgery, Dental Student Teaching (Dentists and Therapists) and Epidemiology.
Bridgewater Community Dental Network provides services to patients in Bolton, Bury, Halton, Heywood, Middleton, Oldham, Rochdale, Sandbach, St Helens, Stockport, Tameside & Glossop, Trafford, Vale Royal area of Cheshire, Warrington, Western Cheshire& Chester, Wigan Borough.
Our team within Oldham, Rochdale and Bury are a tight knit team of approximately 80 staff members . There is an element of cross borough working across the Directorate, all sites have state of the art equipment, multiple surgeries and decontamination suites as well as some sites using central sterilization.
Outline of the job description:
- Provide a wide range of primary dental care for patients including children, people with disabilities, older people and those referred by general dental practitioners.
- Adhere to department and professional standards/protocols without direct supervision. Comment on department policies and propose changes to departmental working practices or procedures as necessary.
- Access communication from the Trust and from the department via e-mail.
- Complete FP17 forms for patients and determine which band the course of treatment falls into.
- Provide dental care in the domiciliary setting for patients who are housebound.
- Provide dental care in secure mental health facilities.
- Provide dental care in hospital under general anaesthesia for patients who cannot have their treatment provided in the clinic.
- Support the Head of Dental Services to maintain health and safety and security within the department, reporting risks and taking appropriate action as required.
- Participate in audit and peer review as required.
- Dental screening of school children and other groups as required by the service epidemiological surveys
- The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties and responsibilities within the framework of the post
