Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a caring, dedicated, adaptable and self-motivated Qualified Dental Therapists who have excellent personal, communication and clinical skills and works well within a team environment to join our team across the North-East sector of Greater Manchester (Oldham, Rochdale & Bury) of the Dental Network.

The post holders will provide a wide range of clinical dental therapy, oral health promotion and preventative oral health care including all extended duties appropriate to a registered dental therapist, as requested by dentists within the service. The work will be carried out primarily within clinics but may include domiciliary care. Patients will include adults and children with additional needs, and patients with learning and physical disabilities.

Due to the increase of the skill mix within our team, we have created a number of vacancies, with varying hours, which can be discussed at interview.

A qualification in inhalation sedation is desirable but not essential.

Applicants must be GDC registered.

  • Provide a full range of extensive treatments (preventative, restorative and surgical) in accordance with General Dental Council guidelines and current legislation, policies and procedures.

  • There is a continual requirement to reconsider treatment options as work progresses e.g. a tooth requiring a different treatment than was predicted, problems with patient co-operation.

  • Plan the appropriate order of treatment, implement, interpret / refine as treatment progresses to final discharge.

  • Discuss specific treatment plans, if appropriate, analyse patient information and adapt for individual needs.

  • Use of communication and interpersonal skills to ensure that consent has been obtained, the patient has full understanding of the treatment options and that they understand the role of the dental therapist.

  • Refer patients to other dental professionals as treatment determines.

  • Provide information and practical advice as appropriate for oral health needs of individuals to enable them to improve and maintain good oral health.

  • Assess, monitor and adapt clinical needs as required to meet needs and capabilities of individual patients. Raise awareness of patients own responsibility regarding treatment outcome and long term benefits.

  • Treat patient groups including children and adults and those with multiple complex needs. Understand the needs of patients with anxiety and disabilities and carry out their treatment accordingly.

  • Decide how to implement the overall treatment plan, taking into account the medical and psychological needs of the patient.

  • Ensure CPD needs are met by actively participating in the PDP annual review using same as a basis for discussion to identify training needs using the KSF outline.

  • Identify own training needs and how best to achieve these ensuring Continuing Professional Development is updated and mandatory training is undertaken and recorded.
