Job summary

As an Infrastructure Engineer at Bridgewater, you will be responsible for supporting staff by ensuring that our service users needs are met through the support and development of the Trusts core Infrastructure. The role is flexible with hybrid working available and many opportunities to develop to skills and learn new knowledge for the correct candidate

This is a technical role where you will be working as part of the Infrastructure Team to implement, operate and maintain a range of internal and cloud systems with a focus on Virtual Infrastructure services on behalf of internal and external services. The correct candidate will have experience in providing 3rd line level support, provide periodic out of hours support and be able to travel between sites.

Main duties of the job

The main duties as an IT Infrastructure Engineer at Bridgewater include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the implementation of digital innovative solutions throughout the entire process from design to project completion and ongoing support.
  • Actively participating in developing and supporting the trusts core server infrastructure system to meet the needs of our services and external users.
  • Deliver a high standard of 3rd line level of support and communication whilst supporting incidents reported by users within the agreed timescales whilst following the trusts processes and monitoring the escalation points.
  • Work with 3rd party technical teams to help deliver projects which aim to meet to trusts digital strategy.
  • Focus on identifying issues with the trusts core server infrastructure.
  • Encourage a culture of maintaining the importance of cyber security through maintaining an up-to-date environment and following requirements from the trust, including change management and reporting of risks.
  • Take responsibility of the creation and of concise, accurate and updated documentation and records relating to all systems.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide Engineer level technical input into the delivery of IT projects for Trust customers and stakeholders.
  • Configuring and maintaining the new strategic One Bridgewater private cloud hosting solution enabling cutting edge recovery solutions
  • Interpret and analyse technical data to produce Technical/MI reports for the IT Management chain and relevant stakeholders supporting Trust security and vendor license compliancy and informing strategic investment and procurement
  • Use skills and knowledge to establish and maintain required security policies and procedures thus ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of all Trust Systems and Data. Achieved via Anti-Virus provision, certification technologies and correct Logical Access models and including all aspects of physical security.
  • Provide on-going maintenance for Information Systems ensuring that all relevant firmware, hotfixes, and service packs are applied, and the systems remain robust and fit for purpose. Planning to ensure capacity and providing through lifecycle management cradle to grave procurement, implementation, integration, maintenance, manage to obsolescence, securely decommissioning and recycling all associated physical and logical infrastructure.
  • Plan, manage and implement change for both BAU and Project delivery purposes. Ensuring risk management is paramount and ITIL best practices are observed.
  • Proactive monitoring and management of the Bridgewater infrastructure environment to ensure maximum uptime and essential security mechanisms are fully functional to guarantee the integrity of NHS data.
  • Actively participate in the on-going technical development and documentation of IM&T processes and procedures in line with the trusts corporate policy, objectives, and goals.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation and management of the backup infrastructure including file system backup and recovery. Including Trust wide data archiving and message journaling ensuring the integrity and availability meets all legal requirements.
  • Maintain the risk register, where appropriate managing and alleviating risk and where possible resolving the risk. To be responsible for highlighting any major or developing risks to the Infrastructure Manager or during CAB attendance.
  • Server build and provisioning across both the cloud and virtual server estate. Providing all required physical/logical infrastructure and installing, developing, testing, and integrating application layer technologies.
  • Liaison with third parties in the on-going maintenance of a range of managed services. Actively seeking and scrutinising future 3rd party support agreements ensuring they are fit for purpose and at a cost that offers the best value to the trust. In cases where future support costs may be prohibitive, or the support/product offered may not be in alignment with the Trusts future strategy devising and implementing alternate solutions.
  • Provide guidance and technical training (knowledge transfer) to members of teams within the escalation path. Being a point of escalation dealing directly with Infrastructure Specialists to provide root cause fixes.
  • To be fully conversant with the Server Infrastructure and systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Azure, VMware vSphere, Storage solutions including associated fabric, Microsoft Windows server, and Active Directory.
