As the Librarian you will provide professional support and assistance to the Knowledge & Library Service Manager in the delivery of a full range of library services, with particular responsibility for the operational day-to-day running of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Knowledge & Library Service Manager in the delivery of Knowledge & Library Services by:

Managing the operational running of the library service, including overall management of day-to-day library enquiries, literature/evidence searches, Inter library loans, cataloguing, management of access to e-resources.

Ensuring that staff have access to the electronic library resources, when & where needed.

Promoting the use of library resources throughout the Trust.

Developing systems and services to manage and deliver electronic resources, taking a proactive approach to exploring and using the latest technology.

Delivering information skills training sessions to ensure staff make effective use of electronic resources to support evidence-based practice.

Working with the Knowledge &: Library Service Manager to continually improve delivery of the Library Service to all Trust staff and students including collecting usage statistics and impact case studies.

Communication

Promote and market the Library Service throughout the Trust to ensure staff and students are aware of the service.

Provide an enquiry service for Trust staff and students.

Be responsible for developing a robust web presence and for maintaining library pages on the corporate intranet, including library blog & Twitter presence.

Produce and deliver a range of library training courses to promote use of Library resources through a variety of means such as e-learning, virtual classroom, YouTube etc.

Advise, maintain and develop systems to support Knowledge Management through access to key documents & resources including case studies, best practice models, statistics and how to guides

Raise the profile of the Library and Knowledge Service through a range of mechanisms including Corporate and Library Inductions, meetings, group briefings and other opportunities that are presented.

Design and produce a range of publicity materials promoting Knowledge & Library Services, events & resources.

Communicate with library colleagues locally, throughout the Northwest and nationally to share knowledge & expertise and widen access to resources and training.

Work closely with the Knowledge & Library Service Manager to provide seamless and equitable access to services for all Trust staff packaging resources to suit staff groups as required.

Represent the Knowledge & Library Service at appropriate meetings within the organisation and across the LIHNN network.

  • Significant demonstrable experience of working in a health library or information environment
  • Experience of acquiring, searching and appraising health information sources
  • Previous experience of delivering training and presentations
  • Experience of managing electronic library and information systems
  • Experience of generating statistical reports and analysis

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Data Protection and Copyright Law
  • Experience of training health professionals in information skills
  • Website and E-learning programme development
