Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join the CAMHS Eating Disorder Service in Leeds.

The team engages and supports young people and families with a range of eating problems, providing specialist assessment and intervention up to age 18. We also offer support to local external agencies through training and consultation.

The post holder will experience working alongside an MDT of skilled and committed Psychologists, Nurses, Dieticians, Psychiatrists and Paediatricians. You will work closely with colleagues in CAMHS and local schools, and have links to paediatric and specialist care services across the locality.

There is a long history of psychologists working within this team, as the distinct contribution of Psychology is highly valued. The post-holder will be supervised by a qualified Clinical Psychologist with full support given throughout the post from the Senior Clinical Psychologist and also the Clinical Team Manager.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve supporting the team with:

  • Conducting psychological assessments and developing formulations which draw on a range of theories and perspectives
  • Delivery of individual & group therapeutic work
  • Contributing to research and audit in an exciting and evolving area of clinical practice

You will access clinical and group supervision, MDT meetings, case-formulation, and ongoing training and CPD. This post is ideal for someone who is passionate about developing their theory-practice links through clinical work, multi-disciplinary working, and supervision. The post-holder will thrive if they value opportunities for learning and growth in areas of service evaluation, development, and community outreach.

Experience in the role of an Assistant Psychologist or working with children or in social care is desirable. You will have an upper second class honours degree in Psychology. We follow a hybrid working model consisting of office-based work and also remote work.

Job Purpose

The post holder will work within standard operating procedures / pathways to manage their own workload independently but with reference to a supervisor within the clinical area. In doing so, they will support the assessment of patients and implementation of programmes of care ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge. The post holder will work within a range of standard operating procedures and pathways in which they have received training in order to be competent.

Provides and receives routine or sometimes complex information using persuasion, reassurance, tact and empathy and addressing barriers to understanding in order to engage the individual in their care and gain valid consent for care; record discussions in an accurate and timely manner in the individuals patient record

1.7. Approaches each individual with care, compassion and sensitivity ensuring that these values are reflected in all aspects of their role

1.8. Engages and actively involves the individual and, if appropriate, their family/carer, in their assessment, programme of treatment and/or care by using person-centred techniques to promote a culture of self care, involvement and empowerment
