Job summary

The Integrated Children with Additional Needs (ICAN) service are seeking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse or AHP with community paediatric experience, to join our existing multi-disciplinary team.

This is an exciting time for ICAN as we continue to develop a seamless service for children and young people and their families. We are proud of all we achieve in the ICAN service and in order to fulfil our vision we have developed two new advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) roles.

Key responsibilities include working towards achieving competency in the four pillars of advanced practice. You will be expected to be proactive in developing your personal development plan with support from your Lead Supervisor. These ACP apprenticeships will be delivered in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University. Hours of work are a minimum of 0.8 WTE/ 30 hours per week paid at Band 7 during training (3 years) & at Band 8a on successful completion of training.

Main duties of the job

Post 1 - Experience of assessing children with suspected autism and supporting families post diagnosis as you will be working as a part of Complex Communication Assessment pathway.

Post 2 - Experience of assessing and managing children and young people with physical neurodisabilities, including spasticity and complex presentations. You will work alongside paediatricians in the Paediatric Neurodisability Service.

We are looking for two dynamic, forward-thinking nurses/AHPs with excellent communication skills, leadership and organisational skills and the ability to motivate and support others through change and service development. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary community setting for children and young people with diagnosed and emerging neurodisabilities including autism, cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. Knowledge of IT systems including SystmOne, ICE and Datix would support the successful candidate in their day-to-day work.

The post holder will need to be accepted by the university and will be expected (and supported) to undertake the Advanced Clinical Practice training. The post holder will deliver quality holistic care and treatment to children and families on the ICAN caseload.

The post holder is able to work independently and make independent decisions enabled by a collaborative and supportive working relationship with the clinical supervisor. The post holder will demonstrate safe and effective clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment, diagnostic and management skills. The post holder will assess and manage children with neurodevelopmental conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Learning Disabilities.

The post holder will assist in the provision of care, focusing on the suspected-autism pathway and the Cerebral Palsy Integrated Pathway (both of which are multi-professional pathways) across all ICAN hubs, at the childs home or education setting (school/nursery), working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality patient-centred care.

1.5.Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/ treatments for patients with complex needs

1.6.Makes complex judgements requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options by integrating complex knowledge sources in new and/or unfamiliar contexts
