This post provides an exciting opportunity for a 9 PA post (0.9
WTE) between Leeds sexual health (5PA) and Community Gynaecology Services
(4PA). The SRH consultant to join the team at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS
Trust, providing integrated sexual healthcare and community gynaecology
services across the city.
Leeds Sexual Health (LSH) was rated Outstanding by CQC and
is committed to providing high quality sexual health services. The sexual
health service operates from a city centre (hub) site in the heart of Leeds
with four additional spoke sites. The community gynaecology service (CGS) also
operates from different sites spread across the city.
The Leeds Sexual Health and Community Gynaecology services consist
of a team of SRH and GUM Consultants, Specialty Doctors and dual trained
nursing team supported by dedicated administration staff.
We have strong links with University of Leeds Medical School,
actively contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
We also have a robust clinical research portfolio and culture.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work across the integrated
sexual health and the community gynaecology service providing clinical
expertise, clinical governance, supporting training, contributing to service
development and innovation.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will form part of multidisciplinary teams (LSH is consortia partnership of Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trusts, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) and voluntary sector partner Mesmac) providing holistic integrated sexual healthcare in community settings and working collaboratively with Voluntary organisations, Community Gynaecology Services, HIV services, Primary care, social services among others. The CGS is hosted by Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trusts and works closely with LTHT and Meanwood Gynaecology service in Primary care as a part of integrated gynaecological services. The CGS service is led by community gynaecologist consultant and Specialty doctor.
OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
Leeds Sexual Health
1. To provide senior medical input in the clinical delivery of a comprehensive integrated sexual health service to improve the sexual health and well-being of the population of Leeds. To propagate the benefits of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and contribute towards reduction in unplanned pregnancy, teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infection and abortion rates in Leeds.
2. To provide senior SRH medical cover to ensure safe service delivery with ongoing ‘dual training’ of clinicians and provide advice & support to colleagues in the service and Primary care.
3. To ensure standards in relation to Service Standards for Sexual Health Services are met at the LSH.
4. To support the Clinical Governance programme for the Sexual & Reproductive element of the service, cascade good clinical practice guidance of Faculty of SRH & NICE to the team and contribute develop PGDs.
5. To develop & lead with team the Outreach SRH programme in collaboration with partners to propagate sexual health promotion, LARC uptake, HIV testing in outreach settings among most at risk population.
6. To actively contribute to teaching & training within the service and external colleagues in Leeds. To support undergraduate teaching and lead the development and review of PGDs and guidelines in a timely manner.
Community Gynaecology Service
1. To provide senior medical input in the clinical delivery of a comprehensive integrated CG services and work with partner organisations to improve health and well-being of women of Leeds.
2. To support and develop the Clinical Governance programme for CGS service, cascade good clinical practice and contribute effectively to team clinical supervision. To participate in joint Benign gynaecology MDT led by LTHT
3. To support and lead on service development opportunities.
4. To work with partner organisations to reduce waiting times and maintain 18 weeks target while maintaining high quality care provided.
To actively contribute to teaching & training within the service. To support undergraduate teaching
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
Clinical
1. The consultant will provide the full range of contraceptive and sexual health services flexibly from the Merrion centre which is the hub and any of the four further spoke sites. There is an expectation to provide 1:11 Saturday clinic cover.
2. The consultant would be expected to provide complex and specialist SRH service which include deep implant removal, complex medical contraception and complex IUD clinics. The consultant would be supported by the team of nurses, specialty doctors and consultants.
3. The consultant will provide specialist care for all common benign gynaecological conditions and flexibly from any of the four community gynaecology clinic sites.
4. Experience and skills in out-patients scanning will be mandatory
5. The consultant would support and further develop the outreach service and establish pathways to fast-track access for the most at risk and work with LTHT Gynaecologists, midwives, Primary care and voluntary sector to achieve this. Leeds has a high black minority ethnic (BME) and Asian population and the consultant would work with the team to increase the uptake of LARC contraception and HIV testing & early diagnosis among this group.
6. The consultant should be able to manage STIs presenting in an integrated SH service and manage patient’s requesting PEP and PrEP, with support from GUM Consultant colleagues for complex cases.
