Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Leeds Community Equipment Service (at Assisted Living Leeds) as a cleaning assistant. The Leeds Community Equipment Services role is to provide daily living and nursing equipment quickly for people to use in their own home to enable them to live independent and inclusive lives. Once the service user has no further use for the equipment it is collected, returned, cleaned, refurbished and then reissued. New equipment is also purchased. The cleaning team will achieve this aim by working closely with other parts of the service to ensure equipment is in clean and serviceable order, ready to be issued. This department is a fast-paced environment where the team are key to moving stock to the maintenance department, from where it will be put back into stock in the warehouse and therefore ready to go to a clients home.

Main duties of the job

The Cleaning Assistant will work in a small team & be expected to undertake the cleaning of all returned equipment to the decontamination department. This will either be done manually or by using the large washer in the department. You will have to move cleaned equipment to the de-humidifier room to dry and to package items ready to be checked and re-issued. The Cleaning Assistant must follow manufacturers instructions on the dismantling and decontaminating of the equipment. At all times attention must be given to the following of all relevant Health, Safety and COSHH guidance, in relation to working safely and the segregation of contaminated and de-contaminated equipment. The Cleaning Assistant will be required to undertake suitable technical and mandatory training to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to carry out their role. It is expected that all colleagues will use IT systems to carry out certain parts of their role.

The post holder will be responsible for their designated workload within their service area with access to support, advice and management from an appropriate senior member of staff. The post holder will work to professional cleaning standards and national guidance at all times.

The post holder will be responsible for providing and maintaining an efficient and professional domestic support function to the Leeds Community equipment and environment and related providers ensuring discretion and confidentiality at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Cleaning responsibilities

1.1 First point of contact for cleaning issues with contaminated equipment, liaising with their Line Manage, ensuring that all issues raised are dealt with in a courteous and diplomatic manner. Occasional contact with patients/ carers when equipment is returned.

1.2 To provide a cleaning function to Leeds Community Equipment Services within the specified area ensuring delegated tasks are completed within the agreed timeframe and within the boundaries of competence.

1.3 To be able to follow manufacturers cleaning instructions to dismantle and clean all contaminated equipment. Make judgements on whether to keep equipment, based on condition.

1.4 To assist in maintaining service delivery create, manage and maintain electronic and paper based systems working within agreed guidelines.

1.5 Ensure all Domestic Local Operational Procedures are adhered to.

1.6 To liaise with their Line Manager in relation to machine maintenance and provision of supplies.

1.7 To ensure fire regulations are adhered to. This may require acting as the nominated Fire Person depending on location and include weekly test of fire alarms and responding to alarms in buildings ensuring compliance with local procedures.

1.8 To provide appropriate cover if required within an agreed area to maintain service provision.

1.9 Complies with the Policies and procedures.

1.10 Participate in cleaning audits within the scope of the role.

1.11 Stock control of cleaning products.
