As a Police Custody Healthcare Professional, youll be at the critical intersection of healthcare and justice, providing high-quality clinical assessments and urgent care to some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Youll work alongside police officers, mental health professionals, and other agencies to safeguard detainees and support their health and wellbeing.
We provide Healthcare in the following custody suites Elland Rd LS11 8BU, Normanton W6 1ZB, Bradford BD5 0DZ, Halifax HX1 5TW, Huddersfield HD1 2NJ and Stainbeck LS7 3QU. Therefore no two days will be the same, this is a unique opportunity to support a range of custody services within West Yorkshire.
Who were looking for:
You must be a registered healthcare professional with a current and valid registration with one of the following bodies:
- NMC (Registered Nurse Adult, Mental Health, or Learning Disability).
- HCPC (Paramedic).
Main duties of the job
We are seeking someone who:
- Has at least 3 years post-registration clinical experience.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, autonomous role.
- Can remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Has excellent communication, decision-making, and clinical risk management skills.
- Has experience in urgent care, custody, A&E, prison healthcare, mental health, or substance misuse (desirable but not essential).
As an HCP in police custody, you will provide high quality care to detainees, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing while in custody. Working closely with police staff and other professionals, you will play a vital role in delivering clinical assessments and managing health risks.
Main duties will include:
- Conducting physical and mental health assessments for detainees.
- Administering medications and managing ongoing heath conditions.
- Delivering first aid and emergency care as needed.
- Supporting individuals experiencing mental crises/substance misuse withdrawal.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and adhering to confidentiality in line with policy and procedure.
- Liaising with multidisciplinary teams, including police staff and external heath services.
