Job summary

The purpose of this role is to lead and deliver the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 years (25 SEND) within School Nursing speciality. The post holder will lead, influence and deliver the school nurse model of provision to improve health, reduce inequalities and safeguard children.

Our registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurses work closely with support workers and registered Staff Nurses to provide health education and promotion to children, young people and their families.

We welcome applications from NMC registered Nurses in any field; adult, paediatric, mental health and learning disability nurses are all invited to apply. However, all applicants must also possess the SCPHN (School Nursing) qualification and be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and deliver the Healthy Child Programme 0-19 years (25 SEND) within own speciality and as part of the Children and Families division.
  • Defined caseload of primary and secondary schools which includes a combination of universal and safeguarding children and young people.
  • You will be working in a small team with a duty system for safeguarding ,triaging referrals answering the telephone.
  • The post is based in the community and you will need to be flexible ,able to drive and have the use of a car to complete visits to schools.
  • Give support and advice on high impact areas within e.g. immunisation, nutrition, life style issues, emotional and behavioural issues.
  • Promoting local and national public health messages within specialism and various settings.
  • Ensure that accurate and contemporaneous records are maintained and these are appropriately stored and safeguarded.
  • To formulate, implement and evaluate agreed contracts of care of children with individual health needs.
  • To undertake health assessments and any necessary follow up action.
  • Work to the local Adult/Child Protection and Domestic Abuse policies and procedures working in partnership and in close co-operation with relevant agencies and colleagues.
  • To liaise with other agencies including social care, educational services and the voluntary sector.
