An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position within our Community Children and Young People's Continence service. We are seeking a highly motivated Children and Young People's Continence Nurse to join us. The post holder will take a key role in the delivery of a wide range of bladder and bowel dysfunction for children and young people across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

The successful candidate will need to already possess the skills and knowledge in continence treatment and have an awareness of the medication management in line with NICE guidelines and other strategies used for children with incontinence.

Operational hours are Monday- Friday 09.00-17.00. However on occasions, there may be the need for the post holder to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including seeing the children in their own homes or other community settings.

The post holder will need to be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

  • To promote continence by providing education / advisory service for patients, professionals and others caring for patients with continence problems.
  • To provide a continence service in community nurse-led clinics, home visits and other community settings and have extensive knowledge of the defined speciality using evidence of post basic study.
  • To perform comprehensive assessments, plan, implement and evaluate care for children and young people with continence needs within Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
  • To respond to patients, family and professionals telephone enquiries as required.
  • To liaise with the Administrator to support the organisation of clinic sessions and ensure year round cover for the Children and Young People's Continence service.
  • To support teaching and awareness raising sessions for health, education and social colleagues.
  • To be involved in service development and audit.
