Staff Nurse - Prison Primary Care

Job summary

We have a new opportunity for the position of Prison Primary Care Staff Nurse.

As part of this role, you would have line manager responsibility for registered nurses, healthcare assistants and administration staff. you would be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient's healthcare needs. Upon reception to custody, you would complete an assessment of patients' mental and physical wellbeing/needs.

Main duties of the job

  • Use of statutory and organisational requirements and guidelines, relating to the administration of medicine.
  • Respect patient's individuality and maintain their privacy, dignity and human rights within the constraints of the custodial environment.
  • Support patients to address issues which effect their own health, behaviour and social welfare. Provide patients with support during healthcare activities.
  • Support patients who are distressed who could be at risk of harm to themselves or others, or who are at risk of suicide.
  • Take responsibility for clinical treatment or appropriate referral to doctors or outside agencies, also removal of risk factors in a situation where risk of self harm, or harm to others or suicide seems evident.
  • Support patients and exercise positive relationships with professional boundaries as part of a purposeful caring regime.
