Job summary

To provide a dedicated Paediatric Phlebotomy service for a specific group of children within the community setting. To be the lead within the phlebotomy sessions. to support the training of new staff to the service.

Main duties of the job

To collect blood samples for patients as requested by nursing and medical staff in the community setting.

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Recognised phlebotomy qualification/completion of competency-based workbook
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent in relevant area of knowledge/experience

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • NVQ 3 or equivalent in relevant area of knowledge/experience
  • Experience of working with children with health needs and awareness of children with additional difficulties
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public
  • Evidence of being able to work independently and with resources using own initiative as required
  • Experience of handling confidential data
  • Experience of team working and supporting the learning of others

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Competent phlebotomy skills in children and young people
  • Good Verbal and written communication skills
  • A Professional and helpful manner in all modes of communication including face to face and telephone situations.
  • Ability to analyse clinical situations and make appropriate judgements & decisions
  • Good IT and Microsoft skills

  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the post
