Job summary

The Multi-disciplinary team at both Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire Child Development Centres create a supportive environment for parents and carers, ensuring that they remain central to the assessment process by sharing information and expressing concerns about their child's early development.

We are seeking to offer an opportunity to education, social care or health practitioners who can demonstrate their abilities and expertise in working collaboratively with families and can confidently track a child's development through thorough observations, reporting these back to both families and a range of professionals.

Applicants should possess a solid understanding and practical experience of supporting young children with physical, health or developmental needs including Autism.

We are interested to hear from applicants who can work well as a part of a team but can also work alone when necessary. You should have the ability to communicate with a variety of professionals and should be able to communicate information sensitively and effectively to parents and carers to build trusting relationships and provide support.

The successful applicants will have significant experience of delivering education, social care or health services and like us will have a focus on listening to the voice of young children and their families.

The AHP support worker competency, education and career framework will support you in your development within this role.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in the assessment, treatment and support of children with special needs and their families, providing a safe, stimulating environment in a variety of locations.
  • To undertake standardised development assessments e.g. Schedule of Growing Skills (SOGS) as requested by Community Paediatricians and/or in accordance with under 5 assessment pathways.
  • To deliver planned programmes of therapy to individuals and groups of children with special needs using own initiative, working under the direction of but unsupervised by medics, therapists and educationalists.
  • In some areas of work, the post holder is required to work under the direction of, but unsupervised by professionals. The person will work in a multidisciplinary environment with regular contact with professionals from education and social care.
  • The post holder will work in a variety of locations - home, school, nurseries, children centres and will communicate with a wide range of people.
  • The post holder will work with children with a range of additional needs/ learning disabilities.
  • The post holder will need to adapt practices to meet individual patients' circumstances e.g. cultural/linguistic practices.
