Job summary

Paediatric Psychology Service; Paediatric Epilepsy and Diabetes MDTs We have an exciting opportunity within our Integrated Care System (ICS) to recruit an experienced Clinical Psychologist to join a new pilot project to introduce and embed psychology provision into paediatric epilepsy services. We have additional hours available to provide maternity leave cover into paediatric diabetes and the paediatric constipation team.

The paediatric epilepsy team are keen to welcome psychological professions as part of the MDT. Clinical psychology provision is already well-established and highly valued within the paediatric diabetes MDT and our nurse-led constipation clinic provision. This post will involve working alongside a Principal Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist within diabetes. It will include both direct psychological intervention with children and young people, as well as working indirectly with healthcare colleagues. There will be opportunity for participating in a Family Therapy clinic within the psychology team.

Main duties of the job

The main duty of this role involves providing evidence-based, psychological interventions with children, young people and their families under the care of the paediatric epilepsy, paediatric diabetes and paediatric constipation teams, aimed at reducing distress and promoting positive health and wellbeing outcomes.

The role will also involve working indirectly with colleagues, sharing psychological skills and approaches and promoting psychologically informed care, through supervision, consultation and multi-disciplinary team working. There will be scope to contribute to service audit, evaluation and development projects as a part of this role.

The successful applicant will be a compassionate and committed team player, with previous experience within paediatric psychology settings and a strong passion for making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with physical health conditions. This post is advertised at a time of real opportunity for introducing, strengthening and embedding psychological practice in physical healthcare settings. Skills in making psychological theory and approaches accessible to colleagues in other disciplines will be key to this role. Whilst this is a fixed term post in the epilepsy team, the hope is that evidencing impact will support the development of a substantive post in the future.
