Shropshire
Community Dental Service is seeking to recruit a Dentist to join our childrens
and special care dental service working primarily at our sites in Telford. The successful
applicant will provide special care and childrens dentistry in both primary
and secondary care settings.
The
Community Dental Service provides a comprehensive special care dentistry and
paediatric dentistry service across three sites in Telford, Shrewsbury and
Oswestry as well as GA services across 2 different hospital trusts, sedation
and domiciliary services. Additionally, the service provides unscheduled
in-hours dental care from two sites, Castle Foregate in Shrewsbury and Oswestry
Health Centre via a single point of access dental advice line and runs salaried
general dental practices at Market Drayton and Craven Arms, as well as an oral
health improvement team and dental epidemiology services. We provide out of hours care at weekends from
Dawley in Telford and Shrewsbury, and an evening on call service which is accessed
via NHS 111. Out of hours and on call services are remunerated at a rate
additional to salary.
Main duties of the job
The team is looking to provide development opportunities for Band A dentists working within the service through internal talent management systems
- Continued professional development including mentoring and supervision from senior dentists
- Opportunities to develop skills in special care and childrens dentistry through mentoring, coaching and shadowing
- Positive relationships with the dedicated administration team, our highly qualified nursing staff, dental therapists, and our oral health improvement service
- The positive relationships we have with patients, carers and commissioners

domiciliary care to the local population including the provision of treatment under
conscious sedation and general anaesthesia when required to do so.
To provide urgent care for patients who do not have a regular dentist and have
problems accessing regular dentistry when required to do so.
To provide routine NHS dental care to patients referred for treatment and those who receive continuing care within the community dental service.
The whole Dental Team (i.e., receptionists, dental nurses & dentists) have a
responsibility to give patients advice on exemptions, point of treatment checks, details
of NHS charges and the length of time required to complete proposed treatment.
To examine patients and providing them with a detailed treatment plan when required and options for securing reasonable oral health.
Flexible working arrangements include working at different clinics and undertaking
some evening sessions when required to do so following consultation with the post
holder. Participation in the weekday on-call arrangements and the OOHEDS sessions
as applicable and agreed as part of the job planning process.
