Job summary

We are excited to announce that we are looking for additional staff to work on our ENP / ECP bank. We have a variety of shifts across all 4 of our Minor Injury Units and you will have the opportunity to see and treat patients in their journey through the unit.

You should have completed your Minor Injury and Minor Illness modules, with a completed portfolio, and have sufficient experience either in an A&E department or Minor Injury setting. You will be working as a autonomous and valued Practitioner within the teams.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality, safe and effective Minor Injury service that meets the needs of the people and communities served by Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust. This will require the autonomous clinical assessment of minor injuries and ailments, including the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic studies, establishing diagnoses, arranging appropriate treatment and or follow up, and referral on to specialist inpatient/outpatient management as necessary. The practitioner will autonomously develop individual treatment and care packages for each patient, by interpreting evidenced based clinical guidelines to assist in treatment planning.

The post holder is required to provide expert clinical care for patients and to support other staff to develop their competencies in minor injury management. The post holder will be involved in teaching and training both formally to clinical staff and to patients.

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively across primary and community care, and link to other specialists within the acute setting to ensure an integrated care pathway for people with minor injuries.

Job responsibilities

To work with other Emergency Practitioners, the Team Lead and Clinical Service Manager/Clinical Lead and other team leaders/managers within the Trust to proactively support the development and redesign of care pathways, embracing the concept of care closer to home and expanding/enhancing multi-disciplinary/multi agency working for people with minor injuries.

Be responsible and accountable for autonomous assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management of those presenting to an MIU to include a variety of previously undiagnosed and frequently complex acute injuries where a range of treatment options may be appropriate

To autonomously determine diagnostic imaging required and complete referral for this, working with Radiology colleagues to provide optimum patient flow and experience

To autonomously develop individual treatment and care packages for each patient, by interpreting evidence based clinical guidelines to assist in treatment selection and consideration of options available including advanced techniques.

To be able to act effectively in situations of crisis to ensure safety of patients, carers, visitors and staff and have the ability to direct other staff appropriately e.g. in the event of a cardiac arrest, fire or other major incident.

  • Current professional registration (HCPC or NMC)
  • Degree / diploma educational level training (Nursing, Paramedicine or Physiotherapy)
  • Evidence of recent clinical development beyond qualification
  • Possess professional knowledge acquired through degree level study supplemented by advanced education and clinical experience at Masters level or equivalent
  • Post graduate level studies in:
  • Minor injury assessment and management
  • Physical Assessment or equivalent
  • Paediatric module or equivalent
  • Xray interpretation or equivalent
